Rods for electric reels

Picked up a pair of Tanacon 750 electric reels this summer. Want to try them out squid fishing here in the gulf before I use them on black cod next year on the west coast. Any advice on what to use for rods? I use 6.6 Ugly Sticks for Halibut but was thinking of a pair of the West Coast fishing rods but not certain how stiff to go. Don’t want them too stiff but they need to survive if a halibut jumps on. Thanks.

I fish blk cod and have caught fish as deep as 1400 feet. You rod needs to be able to handle up to 1 kg (max legal amount)weight but still have a tip that you can see a light bite. I actually use an old glass pelagic rod or my 7 foot heavy halibut rod.

Can’t go wrong with a shimano trevala tvc66mh power is medium heavy with medium fast action. I have used them for years, amazing rods rated for 100 pound test line you literally can’t break them. Caught plenty big halibut with them and lately been using them for striped marlin.

I haven't used an electric reel, but I'll upvote on Trevala. Amazingly powerful for their size. People can't believe the bottom fish you can haul up on what looks like a trout rod.

Have same reel and have halibut stiff rod. Have caught black cod in 300 ft in comox .. only 5 lb but just a meat trip. For cod less stiff may show strikes better.

I use a bent rod in a rod holder in the gunnel
Got it on Amazon
Very stiff but can see small rockfish bite

i dont own any but have fished deep drop in florida and MX. ditto on the bent butts as long as you have the correct flushmounts, positions the rod at the correct angle off the gunnel and takes the strain off flimsy rod holders most of us use.
