Rock Fish Closure

So, it has been announced about all the closures,What are your thoughts on this and what will you do to help turn in all the NON COMPLIANT FISHERS.

I like that they at least listed the names of the areas that are RCA's in this years regs. No details on boundaries but at least the area names will give you a hint that you should go do some research.

The STUPID thing is that there is NO print media describing the RCA's. Your choices are web or CD. So what is a non-resident who comes to the area assuming he'll be able to find information on fishing once he get's here supposed to do??? Can't beleive they did this. My guess is that the issue was that instead of keeping it simple they went with a big fancy color book out of the gate which likely cost a fortunue to print so someone had a knee jerk reaction and said "we can't afford that" so instead of just doing a good basic text decription and putting it in the regs we end up with electronic media only.... Sigh.... I watch hundreds of tourists fishing all over Desolation Sound/Copelands/Mitlenatch all summer but can't make it my full time job to tell them all...

What non compliant fishers are you referring to?
Well as you can see from Sir's reply, we have a large influx of tourists,we also have a very large group sport fishermen, and as we are quite aware there is a large amount of new canadians. Out of all these groups, we have many people that do not understand, take time to become informed, or just dont give a damn about our fish stocks. Our government tells us that we need to stop the demise of fish stocks, but cant even come up with a way to inform us. Being a multy culture country, you would think they would print this info in more than our 2 official languages.
Myself i find that i spend much time talking to fishers about the closures, and find that most or many are uninformed or do not know were to look for the info, or cant read the english language the way the federal government writes it.

Points taken. Could someone please explain, why with all these additional RCA's is it necessary to totally close down all rockfish in the Strait. It seems that it's another fishery closure we sport fishers have to bare while they still allow commercial rockfish openings. I understand that it was a carrot dangled to the DFO so they would open Ling Cod, but it sets a unsettling precedent. I'm just as concerned as the next about the decline of coastal rockfish. But I am more concerned about a pattern of closures on all species targeted by sporties. eman

If they close all rockfish fishing in the Strait, it will close all fishing as they will not want you to accidentally catch a rockfish by mistake. By making RCA's they are allowing for fishing in areas other than those identified. It is probably the first step in a process to close all fishing over a period of time and put in more fish farms to supply the extra salmon.;) However on the serious side most of the areas they have closed, are areas that have been overfished and need time to replenish.

I cant figure how they have determined some of the areas as i fish around the Quadra, Reid island area and found that there is not nearly as much pressure on it as thre is on a set of islands between the 2 called the brettons, i se people on these rocks all day long and no closure there, 1/4 mile south in the midle of the straight full closure were no boats fish ?????????????
;)
