Welcome Mark,
To generalize the people on this forum tend to fall into 3 groups. a) Small boat(20-30ft)charter operator/guides that work out of the Victoria, Sooke, Port Renfrew, Ucluelet, Powell River, and Port McNeill/Port Hardy areas. b)Vancouver Island and Vancouver area people that get out to fish in their own boats in their local waters quite often. c) Canadian and American people that don't live near the BC coast and enjoy trailering their boats great distances to get over to Vancouver Island a few times per season.
Their aren't many people that do all-inclusive trips to places like Rivers Inlet posting very often. Good luck, let us know how you do.

Hi Tubber
Thank you for the information on the forum.
Do you think you or someone else can help me with this question?
How do I catch more halibut and less of those those {devil fish}, cant remember the real name of them. Is there a trick to improve on the halibut hits.

Mark
You are correct that not many people from RI get on this site. You can check Oak Bay Marine groups web site for fishing reports there. They got a 57 lber this week. I am headed there on the 11th and will post results when I get back. Last year my wife caught a 57 that won her a free trip back this year.

Hi Mark
Its been slow for big springs but they were stating to show the day I left. Coho 12 to 14lb coming in every day...Halibut limit easy to get...Sportsman Club first class...should be great by the 17th. good luck

"{devil fish}" Do you mean dogfish/mud sharks? If so, you can try switching from bait to Power Grubs or use a jig lure with a skirt and no bait, or move spots, or take more bait and pick through the dogfish to get your 2 halis.

Could also be Arrowtooth Flounder/Turbot in that area. Nasty set of teeth on them bad boys. Heard a 50 odd pounder came in from "just off the dock" yesterday.

Devilfish is the common name for octopus... but Seawolf has nailed it-- Arrowtooth flounder aka "vampires". Of if you are trying to sell them-- turbot.

Only way I know to get away from them is to move!!!!! Or you can use rediculously large baits ( salmon heads) that they cant shovel down thier nasty little throats!!

(btw-- no, they are NOT good to eat unless you like fish mush, which happens very quickly after they are killed..[V])

Ok. Makes sense now. We called them ******* halibut on the comm. boat. We would hack them up to make bait and then catch more of 'em.
Hard to believe Canada and Spain wanted to do battle over these nasty creatures in about 1995 (east coast)

hi tubber,cuba and sea wolf
You guys are all correct, I remember them being call turbot now.
The dock hands called them turbot when I handed them 4 to be cleaned.
I felt like the biggest green horn in Canada when they informed me they should go in the trash can because they turn to mush. So the best thing to do is move location if your catching 6 time more turbot than halibut.
thanks again
