Rivers around Nanaimo?

I'd love to bring my kids out for some river Salmon this fall. Where around nanaimo would be a good place to start.?

Not that far on the inland highway from Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo river....

The Nanaimo has low numbers, closed areas and non retention. Probably not the best combo for taking the kids fishing.

Big Q would be fun for little kids if the "big kids" didn't hog the easy spots.
