Rip robin williams

He was not in a good place the last four years. He always battled mental illness and addiction, but the last bout appeared to put him even further in despair. I listened to him being interviewed on the Marc Maron podcast just a few months ago and many of the people who listened to that podcast, me included, commented that something was up as even in low key interviews he was entertaining, not so in this one. My kids and I grew up with this icon and we will miss him.

What saddens me is that this guy tried and for the most part, was successful for 30 years to stay sober. He said he had one shot of Jack Daniels in Alaska to stay warm when he was filming a movie there two years ago. You know the rest of the story.

Wow, did not know this. Imo, he was one of the best comedians of our generation. Very sad news...

What a terrible loss.Such a witty man.I remember when he first appeared on Mork and Mindy back in the late 70's.You
could tell that this guy was going to go places. Was aware of his personal battles, but had no idea it had gotten this bad.
Rest in peace Robin, you will be missed!

Missed for sure.... Waste of talent and couldn't escape his demons. But man sure could make you laugh...[jfDyTUiL8xs]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfDyTUiL8xs

Absolutely tragic............

Reminds me of when Richard Jeni shot himself. On stage you would never have figured Richard Jeni for a depressed individual. Very very funny guy.

It is just so unfathomable.........

Quite a shocker for sure...also read he checked himself into rehab last month... too bad he never found the help he needed because celebrity or not, suicide is a cowards way out , the most selfish decision one could possibly make, and no matter how hurting he was you can guarantee the hurt he has left for his family is ten fold..

I understand what you're saying Jeff, but functioning people really don't know the despair severe depression causes.
People who are affected lose touch with everything but the pain they feel.

Must be pretty terrible im sure..just get real sick of hearing about people ending their life due too depression...famous or not...there is help available.. shame it had to end his life..will be interesting to hear what other factors were involved.. ie: drugs etc..

All the people who have never committed suicide are quick to point out how cowardly it is.......although they don't have the balls to do it themselves.

I have personal experience with a family member who committed suicide.

He fought in WW2 and went through experiences that none here ever have.

People who don't suffer from severe clinical depression have absolutely no idea how it feels for those that have or do.

Incessant deep mental pain that lasts 365/24/7 can wear a person down to nothing.

I disagree that suicide is the act of a coward. It takes guts to actually end your own life.

I think that those who have never committed suicide have no room to pass judgement on people that have been driven to their wit's end by severe mental suffering.

X2 Seafever. There is not enough known about depression as unfortunately those that have it are not always willing to ask for help as there is a stygma attached. You do not know what is going through a person's mind unless you are there yourself.

Jeffy, Wow, I am so angered by your thoughts on this. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about on this matter. Pretty easy to call the game from the comfort of your own home. You need to get together with Todd Bridges, he feels the same way apparently. Mental illness is THE most complicated and hard to understand illness of them all!

Oh great first post Lorne..nobody would have ever guessed it was you.(.talk about loser)... I had great respect for the man but when someone takes their life that's where my respect is lost.... and I have had friends kill themselves and and if that makes me biased against suicide so be it, maybe you like to tell my buddies 5 year old daughter how great he is for ending his life and leaving her fatherless...

That is such a simplistic viewpoint. It's like when someone gets called out for making a homophobic or racist comment, they follow up their initial statement with 'some of my best friends are black, or I have a gay cousin.' You think committing suicide is taking the easy way out? You can't make blanket statements like that, unless you have intimate knowledge of that person and what they were going through. No one does.

Proof again that fame and fortune does not equal happiness.

I got to wonder if he never made it as a comedian and got a simple mans job and lead a normal life how better off he'd be today. Of course nobody will ever know.
