Renfrew

Went to the beach (btwn logan and camper) last thursday (8/16/07) and it was slow slow slow. Had three bites between 7:00AM and 3:00PM. Fish were off before we could touch the pole. Talked to some people over the radio and they said it was slower than usual and slow before that. I was very disapointed after that so i stuck to the offshore areas. Sounds like everybody is doing well now. Thanks for the information shared here....maybe next year.

Great day yesterday.
Fished Logan for a couple hours early. 26lb and 21lb springs.
Bank for 4 hali in 1/2 hour (chickens 20lb ish).
Fished towards shore from the bank with spoons (no flashers) and bucktails for non stop coho,a few pinks and a 11lb spring. After about 30 coho we had 3 hatcheries.

Logan looked like the trap shack for # of boats and the SE end of the bank was packed with tons of boats packed into a group. Everyone hooking chicken after chicken.

Great fun!! Great weather!!

Tips

sounds great! we trolled from the hali's towards the 170 mark and got 1 hatchery, 2 wild, 1 hatchery and a couple pinks inbetween. One of us was puking the entire morning (not me) so we went in after that.

TipsUp - Isn't the SE side of the bank like 900ft deep? Do you mean the SW side? I saw a lot of boats out there. Unfortunately, we had to tow another boat in from the bank so we didn't get much of a chance to fish. We got into the Yelloweye pretty thick too. IS there a way to puncture their air bladder and send them back to the bottom safely?

thinking of making another trip out to renfrew, hearing you guys are doing so well. Was there in july 1st with limited success for the first time and enjoyed it, any tips (last chance) on where I should try for next weekend, you mentioned tides were right for SE corner, why you say that??? Any tips would help fella's as I'm travelling a fair distance just to try and get a couple hali's

Interested in Hali I live in Mission right along the Fraser, got my Springs although a couple more can't hurt since the sockeye are closed this year.

Well Kelly, back from my 5 week stay in Renfrew. Had an excellent time and met some great people. (Caught lots of fish). Stayed along shore and was quite happy with that for this year. Am already planning next year and now that I have a better idea of what to expect I will be much more relaxed next summer/ Even though the weather was not great it was good for a newbie like me as the water was usually very calm. I appreciate the advice and info provided from u Kelly and others on this site. It was certainly a dream experience come true for me! Actually I think that I was fishing burnt out (if that is possible).
Thanks again. Hope (will) get out again in September.

was out at the bank sunday. conditions very rough, stuck it out and got 10 hallies in 21/2 hours. fished the waterfall for springs, got 4 lost 3. thanks to Ace of Kings charters. good work

Tailspin... Have you driven it? I just heard it was complete.

I also noticed on the drive from Sooke to Renny all of the big corners are being taken out. Work is well underway. 3 year plan. It is to be a 35 minute drive from Sooke.

Lots more pressure as you said.
Good and bad I guess.

Tips

nope whe ni drove it all but about 10km was paved,
and trucks were loading the rollers to take away and i was told they were done for the year.
There using (recycling) the asphalt from the (old lake cowichan high way??) or some place to pave the road out then there going to seal coat it

??? Was paved in July it was rough as hell though, so they tore up the road??? how bad is it???

Got some leftover sockeye from last year I keep for crab bait, are they any good as bait for Hali's if cut into strips??? What is the bait of choice right now or are berkley power baits still the way to go.

We use pinks for bait by cutting the belly's into big strip. You don't have to wait for long if they are around. Just drop it down and be ready to pull. Good Luck
