Registration Numbers Decal

Try these guys in Vancouver. They will custom make up your numbers on a single application adhesive. Call them, I'm sure they'd courier them to you.

Sorry, my first cut an paste job failed. Here's the link. I've used these guys several times for decals and several other promotional type items. They do good work and reasonable. Main and Terminal area in Vancouver

Hey Pescador
Can you include the name and number of the shop please. I need a set also
Do they also do graphics etc for the boat name.

Can anyone recommend a place in Nanaimo to buy registration decal?

Signs Now or Sign Fast on Northfield Rd.

I agree that you should go this route. Easy to install and it looks straight and professional. I had an extra set made up in case one side got screwed up somehow (either by me installing lol or rubbing against something etc.).

Do a little searching on font styles. It can be fun to pick a font that suites the name or boat. Had them done from a friend in Poco and mailed over. Applied myself, which was fairly easy. I picked a pirate font......arrrrrrrrr

Kinda on the same topic, what's the size and placement requirements by tc. Seem to recall 3" in height and near the bow. Is that correct?

Be careful with playing around with different fonts for the numbers. I seem to recall checking the Transport Canada regs when i did mine and they have to be at least 3" high and in block letters.
BTW, I had mine done at Little City Signs in Courtenay. Two name prints (about 8" x 24" as well as two registration numbers for $50. Took me about 20 minutes to put all on the boat.

My reg numbers/letters are 3" and in white, which is easily readable on red hull. I would highly doubt any TC officer would issue a ticket for non-compliance. I would challenge it in court for sure if they tried.

my 2 cents.

I would also highly doubt most TC officers would issue a ticket for non compliance as well if your numbers were easily readable. However, the following is from the Transport Canada website which would lead me to think you might have trouble in court in the event you ran across a TC officer interested in strictly enforcing the rules.

"You must display your pleasure craft licence number above the waterline on both sides of the bow, as far forward as practical, and where it is easy to see. The numbers must be in block letters, at least 7.5 cm (3”) high, and must contrast with the colour of the background."

I am doubtful I would have troubles in court if I ever came across a power hungry officer. I comply on all levels of that statement. I think the perception of what defines "block letters" is different from the actual definition.

Dave - I'm not trying to argue here - and frankly I could give a rat's butt how thefreedictionary defines block letters, because at the end of the day, the only definition of block letters that matters is the one Transport Canada uses. You do whatever you want. Your initial post suggested someone could have fun with fonts. Well, there are a gazillion fonts out there and some of them might not fit anyone's - particularly Transport Canada's - definition of "block" letters. My whole point here was to simply point out what the actual Transport Canada "rules" are in this regard. In all probability the one you chose would not attract anyone's attention and you would never find yourself in court over it.
Now - back to my night time cleansing Scotch...
