Reel repair

I have a few sad Avet’s.
Looks like there’s a reel repair in Victoria, any reviews?
Or Mikes on the mainland or back to Avet in California?

Ok thanks, didn’t know that!
Yessir. Great to deal with.

I will say though, @Old Blue is 100 percent right. They are not that bad to service. Usually they just need a good cleaning and oiling and they come right back to life. They are simpler then you think. The bearings are also more resilient then you would expect from a fishing reel.

Mike in Nanoose Bay has done work on my reels for the past couple of years.
Great Service, good prices, prompt work. I'd recommend him any day.

He told me he was retiring last year

Lotta that going around. I used to deal with a guy in Mill Bay, now retired. Later a guy at Island Outfitter before the fire, now retired. Not sure who I'd go to in Victoria these days.
Apparently he is still around but turned me away last year 🤷🏼‍♂️

I emailed him yesterday and was very responsive. Unfortunately he is unable to help with the reels that I have, there are no parts available for them (Okuma RAW-II 463)
It's common for many reels to be discontinued by the manufacturer and then they stop parts supply. Some models last less than a year or so. Very common with spinning reels. ....

Okuma nade some interesting moochers I have seen a few and they were well made but the narket must not have been great and theyvstopped making them. Parts may be difficult but if you need bearings that should not be impossible. You can always look for a parts reel on ebay or somewhere.

The build quality is exceptional, I believe they were made in Taiwan. Mine are 8+ years old. The known issues with mine is mainly the drag, it just does not hold like it used too and is sticky. Broken clicker spring is another one, although that is not a huge deal to me.
