(Re)painting lures - what type of paint?

Bringing this one back from the dead. I recently tried my hand at airbrushing a couple old wood plugs. Thought they turned out pretty good so I invested in a few more colors and a better quality airbrush/compressor. I’m pretty happy with the results. Those plugs are trout killers for sure Clint

Assist hooks are awesome I tie my own for all my slow pitch jigs.

Those spoons look great @kanuckle head, I would fish those any day!
@ClintR I'd say the same for those plugs!!! wicked job.
Assist hooks are now in their third iteration on my slow pitch setup.
1. Hooks attached to jig, opposite end from leader - as they came from the manufacturer.
2. Hooks attached to jig, same end as leader - less likely to snag on bottom.
3. Hooks attached to leader to jig with split rings. Change jigs with split ring pliers, change Hooks same way.

I had all my jigs tied with a metre or so of fluoro leader, tended to tangle coming out of the box. And a pair of assist hooks for every jig. Now I only need to keep 2 or 3 pairs of hooks super sharp, and the jigs pop on and off the leader rig in a moment. Fluoro tied to braid with FG knot, bead trapped on the braid to be kind to top rod guide.

Edit: the RG chain knot is from leader to split ring, FG is braid to fluoro. If I have to tie a new leader on while out on the water, I do it with an Albright. Somewhat lower strength, but much easier and faster. The chain knot is good for keeping stiffness in the ring, which I like to think keeps more action in the rig.

interesting to see what others do with their slow pitch setups. thanks for sharing. slow pitch community is notoriously tight lipped.

when i first started slow pitch jigging i used a small swivel between my braid and mono. but then i was having some issues with the swivel getting into my rod eyelet so i ditched that and went to a double uni knot to tie leader to braid. then i didn’t like how bulky that knot was going thru the eyes of my rod.

now i use an fg knot with about eight feet or so of leader. it’s a tricky knot and not much fun to tie on the water if you have a major eff up but it’s thin and strong.

I do similar but fluoro to braid I do an FG and fluoro to jig I use a tactical clip to solid ring on the assist. I do a separate assist set or single for each jig because of changes in action (some don’t like the dual assist) and length (longer jig longer assist). “Fishing Kit” on YouTube has some excellent videos on why it’s important to use the right size and length of assists. Cheers!

Just practice the fg on and off the water- enough times and it’s a very easy knot to tie. I’ve probably tied it 40 or 50 times now just for practice and once you know it you can do it in the dark- only tricky part is if you decide to finish it with a tough to tie finishing knot like a ristretto (I think that’s what it is called)… you can get away with a few over hands though. Cheers
