ranger marine boats

wondering if anyone has info regarding ranger marine boats which were built in North Van . In particular I'm curious about a 13' boat I recently bought . A previous owner stripped it down to the bare bones . I came across one that was for sale which is in one of the pictures and it had a lot of extra crap on it . Honestly I like it better the way it is now which gives more room .

What I'm looking to find is the dry weight for this boat or an idea of what it reasonably should be . An older whaler this size is much lighter by specs and at least half the weight of this boat . It sits proud in the water with me and all my gear and moves along ok with a 20hp , though it is under powered since it is rated for a 40hp . I'm just trying to figure out if this thing is a bit water logged . I don't know the current weight and I won't know until I take it through a scale but I do know it's an absolute tank

I talked with one guy who knew of these boats and he said they were great boats but thats about it . I searched online and the company started in the late 80's and ended in early 90's . Aside from that I can't find anything on these boats

It was pretty ratty looking when I bought it as can be seen in the 2 pictures and it cleaned up really nice

Can't help you with the weight question. Cool boat though! My cousin had a Ranger 11 with a Merc 25. That was the dream when you were 10 years old!

It is a cool little boat and overall I'm happy with it . I saw it come up on facebook market at a price I had to jump on . It just needed a cleanup , a few bottom gouges filled and I upholstered the bench seats . With the 20 it is slow at 15mph but it levels off and it'll get me to where I need to go

There is a 16ft ranger belonging to a neighbor near our cabin. They purchased 2 boats in the early 90’s, one was a 13ft with a 70hp Yamaha 2 stroke and the aforementioned 16ft ranger equipped with a 130hp Yamaha.

The owner let me drive the 16 footer to secret cove and back when I was 14 years old (I’m 42 now) ; top speed was 55 mph and pretty intense. The boat currently sports a 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke and has never had any issues as far as I can recall.

I have always been very curious what the 13 footer was capable of with the 70hp two stroke.

I would rate them about as durable as you’re likely to find, given the example I’ve described.

a 70 on a 13' boat would haul . I've seen a couple pictures of the bigger rangers and they looked pretty nice . This boat is solid and very well built and it definitely wasn't a cheap boat in it's time , at least I wouldn't think it was .

The 20hp which I bought this week had a bit of a leak where the fuel line connected to the carb due to a zip tie being used to clamp it . My primer bulb kept getting soft and some air so I knew I had a leak somewhere
While I was looking it over I came to realize the throttle wasn't opening up much at all when it should have been full throttle . It sounded ok when I took it for a run but the revs weren't up where they should have been , and I was thinking it was just working hard on a heavy boat . I'm sure the difference will be largely noticeable when I take it for the next run . It doesn't take away from the fact the boat is heavy but I'm sure it will be a huge improvement until the time comes when I drop a 35 or 40 on it

I have 2 whalers. 1974 and 1977. They probably both have some water in the foam, but the physical space taken up by the foam isn't big enough to add much weight on small boats. Seal any screwholes and other fittings where water could get in, and go fishing/boating. Take out the spare downrigger ball or tell your wife to drop 20lbs is another option.

I'm not too concerned with water in the hull but I am curious as to what this thing is supposed to weigh . I've found some similar hulls online that are roughly 750lbs by specs , and I don't think this boat is too far off from that

An older 13' Whaler hull is about 350lbs.

the older whalers are definitely much lighter .
A similar 13' boat that I came across was around 750lbs . It looked as though it came from a very similar mold . Aside from the console it looks very close to what I have . I'm guessing this boat can't be too far off from original specs (though I could be wrong) .

It is good to run it over the scale and see what it weighs. I had an old Robalo once similar in construction to a whaler lots of mounted hardware through the deck. it had about 600 pounds of water in it. It was the last boat of that type of construction i ever bought.
