My brother and I want to take our dad on a fishing trip to Haida Gwaii, a place we've never visited. My brother says he can fit five days in around the start of August. Is this a good time to go? And where should we try to book? Any advice or thoughts from those of you in the know would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

early june till mid to late aug all good times for lanagra area. I have been there in may,and only chinookies around, june july aug you get the coho's as well. I have fished there june , mid july end july and early aug....all good times. ( definetly worth the price...) this was at langara fishing lodge.. I would go again or recommend to friends. it was 60 guests to 45 + staff. you can fish in 2 types of boats by self. the guides and fish master help out with tips. you have westcoast fishing club, with 2 different camps there, langara with 2 camps, I beleive there are now 2 in vicnity of hippa is on the westcoast, peregrine and QC lodge are in naden harbour , east of langara. A 5 day trip will allow for a weather day. sometimes the SE comes up and you are not able to get around to the west coast, where the big hogs hang out. They have you off chopper and into boats quite fast on first half day and several hours on last day morning. Also VERY saftey oriented

hope that helps..

I was in QCI three summers back. Great time in early June! fished out of Rennell Sound with a guide from QCCity on 23' boat. We boated two chinooks 20 lb plus and three halibuts within 3 hours fishing. We had go home early due to big winds.

For the first time, I ever witnessed a big live skatefish on board and released in the sea. plenty of wildlife around including whales and propoises.

If your heading up that far and paying that much do it right.... If you like weighted rods go to langara Island lodge.. there is a ton of top rods there... if you like riggers go to west coast fishing club... also top rods............ but if you go to peregrine or QCL its a long run out but you get to fish snake rock

Go to the westside, hippa, kano, tasu, englefield in late June early july hands down the best salmon hali fishing you can find just have to put up with some seas sometimes. Langara is good but VERY busy and can take away the feel that your on a special trip and not fishing Sooke. The one upside is there is always shelter there.

Okay, thanks for all the great feedback. I spoke to my brother today, and he seems to have his heart set on Langara. Any more thoughts about this location? I guess you choose between the two places which are expensive and more expensive.

One thing to keep in mind is fishing methods-Langara Fishing Lodge as linked is all about bait and 60's style power mooching OK for some but not for me personally.

I was there two years ago and would have done a lot better with downriggers.

WCQCI with Westcoast Resorts would be my first choice-they use downriggers and have two locations-both of which I've fished and like more than Langara.

If you want more info on Langara Fishing Lodge shoot me an email.

Go in late august...just as many Chinooks around and the Coho fishing is great.
Get a guide for only part of your stay...way more fun when catching fish yourself.
Power Mooching = Fun! Down Rigger - ehh, it's ok...I guess.

Message sent, Dog. Thanks :)

"the fishing is just as good as QCI but less $$$"

Ya...you're right. But it just aint the Charlottes. Putin a hook in those waters is something special. IMO - you won't regret QCI.

Fished both places. WCVI generally has more consistent fishing year over year. When you examine the catch stats the most consistent fishing on the coast for the longest period is from Area 123. QCI can be hot at times just like any other area. Both areas offer different experiences, so the real question is what type of experience do you want and how much to you want to pay?
