Pulling Plugs-Is it too early for that?

I am heading to the westcoast to fish off Esperenza Inlet for 4 days tomorrow. I usually get 1 trip a year over there and just got into plug fishing in the last year or so. Normally I go in August. Is it too early in the season to be pulling plugs?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Does the plug look like food? I would say plugs can work all year! Why woulden't they?

Yes plugs have been working well it's slower but the fish are bigger and it keeps the coho under control while your targeting Springs

They are biting the big spoons already so the plugs should work if you're patient

I notice when people go "plugs" off WCVI, they seem to opt for the big plugs a lot.

Do you ever get results with smaller plugs...in the 4 and 5 inch models?

By that I mean if the Chins are not in the mood for hitting 7 inch plugs, would they go for a size or two smaller?

The springs will hit them, but so will the coho and you want to reduce them hiiting the plugs, especially if there is lots out thereace. Plus the big plugs a spoons more respresent the Pilchards, which can get qite big and the springs will target them.

Ran whole herring in teaser heads today on one side and a 5" 500 plug on the other side and had good success with the kids today for short day on the water.

I have a relative that grew up in the charlottes and guided quite a bit of his early years. he swore by the plugs.... always had great sucess but had some sort of method to using them. pretty much all he used apparently. I never had alot of luck with them but haven't used them in the ocean much... tried them more for lakers in fresh water. but did better using spoons or large t5 flatfish....

I've had some decent success with plugs this year for springs off the CR hump. The 6" Tomic 602 has been the best. I haven't pulled the pin, but I am going to try it on another of the same plug. I like plugs, they are so easy and clean. Just chuck it in the water.

Yep, Campbell River. Also tried a plug last weekend out of Halfmoon Bay, south end of Lasqueti, and south end of Nelson Island. Fishing wasn't so hot anyway, but the only keeper salmon came on a plug. Had 2 huge snappers as well, also on plug.

I have used then in Vancouver...some hot, some not....mostly not....if there aren't fish to bite it, it's not gonna work!
