Prop choice

I need a bit more pitch on my twin 150 seapro props. Running 15p enertia right now but need to go to a 17. Anyone running eco enertia 17 in a similar set up. 5500 lb boat (seasport 22).
I am hitting redline need to go down a couple hundred rpm.
Sticking with merc props.

I am also running twin 2022 150 Seapros on a 24' aluminum which is roughly 4500-5000 lbs. I just bought a couple used 15X19 SS Solas which I think will put me in the sweet spot after trialing a set of aluminums at 15.3X19. I looked at the Enertias and figured they may have been a bit big for the Seapros because that 17p I think gets you into a 16" diameter prop which is getting up there, especially when you are turning stainless.

Or you could try the Sharrow props! I did a quick calculation and figured it would take me 25 years of cruising to pay for the savings in gas.

I've got a 17P Enertia on single a standard Merc 150, boat about half the weight of yours (1980's 18' Outrage) . I could go to a 16P. I top out barely above the minimum allowable WOT rpm at 5350. I tried a 17P Enertia Eco, mileage dropped. Can't remember what happened to WOT rpm. I switched back to the standard Enertia.

The Eco is 16". Standard Enertia 17P is 14.5"

In my experience (others’ may vary) I get better handling and performance from a larger diameter, less pitch prop than a smaller diameter, higher pitch prop when both reach the same or similar WOT.

Little off topic but if you decide to sell one of the props id be interested i have a 14.5x17p enertia on my rig but would like to gain some rpm.

4800-5300 as per specs
Crazy, Yamaha specs are 6000. The best I could get with my 24’ pursuit that weights about the same as yours with the twins I had was 2.5mpg in absolutely perfect conditions and a half tank of fuel. So you’re in the ballpark with MPG and cruise rpm/speed. You’re 150rpm above the recommended RPM, does merc make an 18p prop? Edit.. here it is

Sea Pro versions rpm range are less than the standard motor rpm range. It does seem strange at first glance.

I would think ease of planing from idle would factor into going a bit higher or not with the pitch.

I wouldn’t be too concerned with 150 rpm over recommended WOT if you’re lightly loaded as it would be beneficial when you run heavy.
If you can get there with a heavy load you could consider going up to the 18 P
Either way, 2.5 mpg for your setup would be pretty hard to improve on.

Seapros are geared a bit lower (2.08:1) than the sport versions, thus are a bit torquier but run lower rpm's. So, theoretically you can run more pitch or same pitch, larger diameter.

I would say 2.5mpg is pretty good with what you have and it sounds like you could pitch up a bit based on your WOT numbers. I get 2.1-2.4 depending on load etc, but haven't done a comprehensive test yet. I am seriously considering adding a couple Permatrims this fall to up my numbers a bit.

Thanks for the input, I know I can get more pitch, but if the mileage seems about right think I will stay where I am. Easy to get on step, cruises great.
I am more trying to figure out the best mp/g and if I am there I am happy.

Finally filled her up after using the boat for 8 short trips fishing. 10-15 min from marina to where I fish and a couple 1 hour round trips to go crabbing. 144 litres. I am super happy with that.
Going to stay at 17p. I could go 17p 4 blade or 18p to get a bit more speed but for the time being I am happy. I really do not want a pile of props laying around.

I hear ya; I've been down that road with single mains on my last three boats and I can imagine how daunting trying two every time would be.
The Rev4s a member offered may have been great but the smaller diameter combined with an extra blade sounds like a break-even so not much to be gained relative to the cost of time and money.
