Product Report: ZurTro Spoons

HiYa Folks,

Just back in off the Briney (due to yet more complete BS on the part of The Dino  ) and want to share some good intel.

We wandered up and worked the area around Esperanza for springs over the course of the last week. From the stomach contents witnessed in a couple hundred "volunteers" it was quickly determined that the menu of choice for the springs was completely focused on krill. NO evidence of herring or any other baitfish was seen in the tummies nor the sounder despite exhaustive searches.

Despite that fact, I was itching to try out a new spoon from ZurTro that really appealed to my somewhat discerning eye, as I was anxious to see if the fish found it as appealing as I did. So, I ran one of their 5 1/2 inch "Rosco" spoons as a test. Here is a picture of the spoon I am referring to:

I am very pleased to report that this new design is an Absolute KILLER! Despite no baitfish presence, the springs WELL indicated that they very much thought this little offering was definitely on the "Hit List"! Over the 4 or 5 days we fished, it was responsible for an awesome number of hook-ups, and managed to land the best sized fish we encountered! Yup, 30 plus pounds of rolling anger in APRIL!! Awesome!

I am so impressed with this design that I am immediately ordering several dozen of this particular pattern for both commercial and eventually sporting applications. Given it's horrendously great success when there was no bait presence, I am extremely confident it will SHINE extremely well when those do make their appearance this year!

Not all that often I stumble across a terminal that works as well as this one does! Thought I would share this valuable information for those who ply the chuck. Methinks those that are serious at the game will want a few on hand this season to increase the odds of tagging a Biggie! ;)

Here's the website you can see their other products on, and of course place an order: http://www.zurtrolures.ca/

Will keep ya'll posted as the season progresses and this Killer works it's Magic!

Cheers,
Nog

Right on nog. Any pics of the trip? Always enjoy the reports.

Osama how did you guys make out?

Business time do you make them in the 314 or just the 334? Either way ill grab a few for the season. They look great and i know the spoons are much higher quality than most on the market.

Hey Nog,
Thanks for the awesome feedback!!! I have spent most of the day painting :)

Kelly, for now we make the Rosco in the 512 and 334.

Cheers All,

I have been using this same spoon since last year and I can confirm two points:

1) Much better manufactured and finished than the other named brand product and;

2) It does not work the way that Nog mentioned! ;) It works way better! :)

A quality product made by a quality company that just happens to be local!

Noggin,
Did you run the spoon without the swivel and silver flap as is supplied with the spoons?

Only thing I jobbed out was the hook. Replaced that with a # 5 Stainless commercial "beaked" hook. Those grab on and don't let go! All else was as issued.

Hey Nog,
Thanks for the awesome feedback!!! I have spent most of the day painting :)

Just giving credit where it was due Buddy! You have come up with an awesome piece to add to my arsenal, and I appreciate that BIG TIME! Sorry you became so busy... LOL!

No pix Kelly, was too damn busy with the task at hand. I'll take a few next time we're out...

Cheers,
Nog

i have already done my part and ordered several of these great looking spoons to add to the collection. sure seems to me that you folks up that way have the 'real' tackle for salmon totally dialed in and produced locally. thanks for the tips, can't wait.

I just got my order today in the mail, these spoons look great!
The paint looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to get out and give them a try.

Thanks Noggin - Just finished doctoring my coyote live image spoons like you suggested. Now I have got to make another purchase...

We did some testing with this spoon on the last opening and it was well worth having in the mix...

Like... REALLY WORTHWHILE...

'Nuff said.

OK how do I get my hands on a few of these suckers! I need to try them out. I love fishing spoons and almost always fish them.

Sorry, Funny thing is I had their site open at the same time, I was putting together an order for myself.

Nog...thx for the report. Just ordered a few spoons for my Bamfield trip in July. What brand of #5 "beaked hooks" do you use?

Hey Guys,
The Harbour Chandler will have another 40 Rosco 334's next friday.
We have been mostly Hali fishing this weekend, but we have fished The Wall a bit and have 6 springs so far all on the Rosco 334.
Will have an updated report and some pics when we go home tomorrow.
