Is there anyone out there that fishes the Rupert area? I notice that most of the discussion is around the Vancouver Island area. Just wanting to compare notes.

I was thinking the same thing. We have a trip to Kitimat planned for 20th of this mount but I have no info about how the fishing has been this year. We were their 2 years ago at the time and we did OK but it is a little early in the season.

Hello skinny,
I used to fish the river at Terrace and Kitimat then I got the ocean bug and have not been back to the river in 4 or 5 years. Always did good on the Skeena and Kitimat I have not heard what is happening there yet but it is a shade early. Do you go to the salt much or stick to the rivers? Do you have a jet boat when you are on the river? Let me know if you have any reports from the north coast!

I have fished the saltwater around Rupert. Not an expert by any means. The local tackle shop on the main strip provided me with lots of good info - location and technique. Many seem to fish Springs in close mooching or slow troll with cut plugs (right off the kelp). When coho are in everything works. If you have the money get a guide at least the first day or two.

You need to be a seasoned boater, GPS, sounder, charts, VHF, radar if possible, etc as the area is challenging (shoals, reefs, tides, exposed open areas, fog, you name it). I fished Smith ISland, Stephens ISland around Tree Nob, and north of Duncan Bay.

You say you have fished at Stephens island at "TREE KNOB" where is that in relation to this island. I have fished at "squaterie", it is located on the north end of Stephens island. I would like to try to get to Dundas this year. Wherever I go I just keep on trying to better my limited skill.

Tree Nob is a group of small islands north of Stephens Island. I have fished from Tree Nob south down the east side of Stephens to Prescott Island. My best fishing was at the top end of Stephens around Avery Island. I launched at Rupert, went through Metlakatla passage and went south past Lucy Island. First time there ended up coming back all the way in dense fog.

I think Squnderee is on the west side of Stephens Island around Philip Island. I have never fished there but hear that area all the way down to Porcher Island is good (back side of Prescott). I found I did best for big springs sticking to a couple of areas and fishing it hard, cut plug dead slow in close.

Never fished Dundas as the weather was always snotty when I wanted to go there. I think if I get up therre again that's where I would focus on. Good halibut fishing around there too.

Work Channel is another popular destination. Tried it several times never got into Salmon but the Halibut was good beyond the opening where Work meets the inlet. Also had some good Coho action around Lucy Island.

I heard that the entrance to work channell is very good and you can find protected waters there too. Loooking on the map I may be interested to try Oona River but I don't know the timing of the majority of the chinook run in that area. Anyone know?

Hello Rainbow.
We always fish the salt water. We leave Kitimat and usually stay out for 7 days or so and put on 400 miles. We have had good luck in the past but reports from that area are hard to get. Has anyone been fishing these areas? Are the spring in?

Hi skinny
I would imagine that the springs are maybe just starting to trickle in. I have not heard any confirmed reports. Do you always go to Douglas Channel at Kitimat or have you made it to Rupert?

We always go to Kitimat. I've heard good and bad things about Rupert. Great fishing if you can get out. I'm not a big fan of waiting on the docks to get out fishing. The Douglas channel always has a spot to hide in and usually fish.
