I have heard nothing good for reports from the Rupert area. At best there has been a half dozen decent days overs the past few weeks. Is this accurate as this is usually prime time?? Is there any good reports frome this area?? Is everything late this year and all the fish are still coming or.......????

My brother is guiding up at Dundas and was having lots of exceptional days out there. 15-20 fish days sometimes. Things have slowed down recently mostly due to poor weather although they are still catching fish. The coho have started to come in to.

Heading for PR on Thursday and will let you know late next week on my return how things went.

Tight lines

okay well I am going to be there in a few days to give it a try. I hope I wont be dissapointed. Everything seems to be late this year so maybe I will hit it right on!??
I usually go a little earlier in the year.
Let me know if things are changing either way and what you guys are catching.

i limited out on chinooks up there a week ago. also did pretty good for bottom fish. im thinking of heading up to the work channel area for mid september. are the coho still running good around 3rd week in september? never fished that late before.

Just got back from 3 days in Prince Rupert where the weather was great, the seas calm and the fishing great. Did not take my own boat but went with Rod Proskiw (250-627-1853) who knew his stuff and the spots to go get fish.

Our first day the seas were calm and so we headed straight out (1 hr + trip) to the halibut grounds. We limited out with the largest in the 65lb range but the other 3 between 25-35. Fished with whole herring on a splitter bar. Not a bad start. Around noon we put our rods in the water for some salmon and pulled in 5 with one being a 30lb spring and the other 4 6-10 lb coho.

Woke up on Sunday to calm seas again and so decided to go back to halibut grounds and get out trip limit. Mission was accomplished by about 11 AM but they were a tad smaller being in the 15-25lb range. All told we had a good feed of halibut to take home. Moved on to go for some big springs but they were not co-operative. Afternoon was slow and managed to put only 3 reasonably sized coho in the boat. Pressure would now be on the skipper to get us into some good salmon action on our last day.

Monday was an overcast day but seas were calm. Headed straight out to the top of Dundas Island which is about 1 1/2 hr trip. Rods were in the water a total of 5 minutes before we had 2 outstanding coho in the boat. The next hour and a half was non-stop action and by about 10:30 am we had a dozen in the boat. There were a few spring with the majority being good size coho. Nothing huge. Decided to go for the big springs a little further around the tip of Dundas as we were a few shy of our daily limit. Managed to get our limit in reasonably short order and then went to do some bottom fishing as we were maxed on halibut/salmon for the trip. Got a couple of reasonable ling cod and a nice yellow eye snaller.

Thanks to Rod for a great trip. I finally got to see the sun in Prince Rupert after 3 trips.
