Hello all, Just got back from our annual trip to Prince Rupert spent a week there.left june 24 and just gort in last night. 15.5 hr drive 1320 km from rupert to Whitecourt,Ab. The fishing was very good,Myself, son-in-law, and neighbour had a great time. weather was the usual rainy cloudy conditions that we have come to expect, they don't call Rupert the city of rainbows for nothing. We managed to get out to Edy Pass, humpback bay, Tree knob group, and other areas as the sea was knot as lumpy as it can get.Burned about $70.00 bucks of gas a day.We limited out on Halibut, chicken size,21 salmon,5 springs the rest coho.biggest spring 40 lb. The coho were very big for this time of the year some were 12lb. There is a very great quanity of bait it in the area so this may account for the size of the coho.We got some realy big ling cod one bottomed out my 50lb. scale.two things happened to me tis trip that were a first for me. Trolling for salmon in 80ft. at 40ft. on the down rigger a small 10lb. halibut came up from the bottom and nailed the anchovie, he was supper that night.I was jigging in 200ft. when i got a light bite when reeling up the line tighten up when I got the jig up ther was a 3lb. rock fish in the jaws of a 35lb. ling cod.We got lots of crabs had some for snacks most nights before supper. We are looking forward to returning in Aug.for what should be some very large Coho. This site is a fantastic place to visit and I have learned a lot of good fishing information here, and the atmosphere is very civil here long may it continue. thats all for now cheers

Nice report Trollman - sounds like you had a great trip.
Im heading there today - same 1500 km trip as you.
How was the debris out in the water & how big is your boat.

Thanks Ken

Hello K45, the water is clear now we fish out fairly far at humpback and the tree knob group I can't say about near the mouth of the river. the debris situation is good as the river seems to have its flow reduced. My boat is a 15.5 ft. ocean sport welded hull 1/4in. bottom 3/16 in., center console t-top. 115 hp. merc classic 2 stroke salt water engine.wheather can be very snotty and it would be nice to have a cabin or canvas to shelter under.cheers

We're also one of the crazies over 1900 km to fish Rupert, where is humpback and tree knob? I'm not familiar with the names.

Hipapg5860,the tree knob group is just to the right of bell passage, if you leave rupert harbor and go past the terminal for the air port ferry and go past the Metlakatla village.once out in the open head out on 210deg mag. after rounding the green channel marker.Humpback bay and Edy pass leave ruperet and go down towards the coal and grain terminals, keeping Kinahain islands on your right follow the channel markers go to 190 deg mag. and head across to humpback or edy pass. Chart #3596 and #3957.

Just got back from Rupert - fishing was pretty good - two of us almost limited out on salmon & Halis, some days slow but still good lost a couple real big springs right at the boat as usual.Biggest springs we got in were 26 - 28 #s average, fishing around Stevens Island & Humback bay.

Two retired guys from Whitecourt Ab, fishing out of a red Thunderjet caught a 45 # spring at Kinsella & a 62 # spring at Eddy pass the next day,Pretty funny guys, lucky as well.

Trollman - where is Eddy pass from Humpback bay ? Thanks for any info.

Hey trollman;
I am not far from you. Near Alberta beach. I go to Rupert usuall 1 or twice a tear. Never made it for my June trip this year tho. But am leaving for there on August 07th. Prob for a couple weeks. A lot of my friends & family come also. Fishing has always been super there. And well worth the trip. I have a 23 ft. Seaswirl. Name on the back is Hardtimes. Going to Tree Knob group, I always go thru Metlatla Pass, then to the left of Lucy Island and straight ahead. I had super fishing there and at Squateree last year.
Happy fishin.

hi,k45. Edye pass is to the north of humpback bay if you follow the coast of porcher islandyou will come to edye pass hard to miss lots of boats are there most days.Boy there are a lot of alberta guys on this web site I know of a dozen goys from whitecourt who fish here every year. This web site is a great place to learn the different aspects of fishing, and the respect shown here to shown to members in fantastic compared to other fishing web sites.

Hey Hardtimes, what are you towing your 23' Seaswirl with? I have the 2101 Seaswirl and use a Ford F150 with the 5.4 litre V8. A challenging pull if the fuel tank is full! Striper Sniper

Hi Trollman,
Thinking of going to Rupert in early August, never been there,
Can you suggest a good marina to launch and park the truck and trailer at. Also looking for a good tackle store to buy anchovies at.
We usually gay way out, find a good place to anchorage, and stay on the boat for a week. Would there be any springs aroun or mostly coho?
Thanks

hello Melroy, the only launch is at Rush brook harbor, the ramp is paved and is a good one. The city of Prince Rupert charges $10.00 for vehicle and trailer per day in the parking lot. this is the first year that they have charged this fee.there is a dispenser that issues a parking slip.if you don't mind the walk you can park on the street as of this time there is no restriction on parking or time limit. The coho fishing is great in aug.I have caught some springs at this time but the majority of fish are coho. The halibut fishing is also very good in aug.I will be out to Rupert 23 aug.

Melroy' forgot to tell you good place for bait is Bob's on the dock also has sea ice at a good price. he is right at the public docks and is open at 6:00 a.m.

Kelly No, I'm not gay, just don't use the spell check button, meant to say we go way out there and anchor for several days.

Thanks for the info trollman, Might have to get some charts for the Rupert area, Usually go to Kitimat or Bamfield, Long drive for you coming from Whitecourt. We live in PG so not too bad a drive.

Sriper Sniper. I pull the boat there w/ my m-home. Is a 38 ft Nemar, gray & white. An oldie, but a gooder. I stay @ the Park avenue campground. I used to store the boat in Prince Rupert, but is far cheaper to pull it home.

Melroy. There is also Traylings Tackle shop, on the main drag in P.R. They have a full line of tackle, baits, charts etc. Also, the owner used to guide there, is very knowledgable, and has to prob to share his knowledge. They are right across street from Tim Hortons.

Hey Hardtimes, just moved up here from Edmonton myself. I bet you have no problem with the boats fuel consumption after hauling the motor home and boat to Rupert all the way from Edmonton..... :D Hope you have a great trip, i have several friends from AB that make the trip annually and they have always had success.
