Hi there,..my wife and I are going to be in the Prince Rupert area for a couple of days at the end of the month. We were wondering if you guys/gals would help us out with where to drop our two traps? We are just looking for a fresh feed at the campground and the experience of doing it ourselves...anything would help...Thanks,...Kris

Thanks,...where is that though? We have only been there a couple of times...(To Prince Rupert I mean)

My wife and I went to Pr. Rupert in early July and are heading back up in a few days.

If you launch at Port Edward (its free and a nice launch pad regardless of tide)you can spend the $5 that you would on launching by buying shaved ice at the site.

We dropped two traps in the channel that goes from the port to the Skeena. Its with in sight to the launch and it was too foggy to head into open water that morning. The water is usually calm and you could do it with a small boat. When we checked them 2 hours later they where full and had to throw some back.

Port Ed is about 10 minutes from downtown Pr. Rup and the ramp is rarely busy. The longest we waited was 10 minutes for some Albertans who had a brand new boat to figure out how to load.

Drive to Pt Ed and look for a dirt road leading over the rail track to a commercial fish processing plant. There is a blue outhouse and a sign erected by the town indicating "free launch". If you drive too far you come to a parking lot full of trucks with empty boat trailers.

The ice is located where you nose the vehicle in before backing down the ramp. It is an honor box system where shaved ice costs $5 for a 5 gallon bucket.

I did not notice any fueling facilities but I didn't really look as I have an E-Tec that doesn't use much.

As I trailered my boat to Rupert each time, I got gas at the Petro-Can in the industrial area on the right hand side as you enter Rupert. I am not sure, but somebody told me that it was the only on-land marine gas (fewer taxes!).
