Prawns......Commercial Season

We were going to go prawning for the first time this year, but the recreational boys were bringing in their traps because they said the commerical season is opening today. They thought the commercial boys might rip off their traps. But I was wondering, if their season just opened today......where do the prawns come from that are sold off the back of pickup trucks and vans at French Creek, Beachcomber, and other locations in the area?

Those are prawns frozen from last years remaining stock from French Creek Seafoods.

Commercials and recreationals re-open May 14th after a May 7th thru May 14th closure.

Pretty sure that is only for Saanich Inlet and the Canal. Everywhere else is open on the 1st of May every season and usually closes in the last week of june.

Hey,

I was biking down the Mount Douglas parkway in Saanich and saw a number of traps or buoys in the bay. Would those be commercial prawn traps?

I would think those are crab pots.
