Prawn Traps

Make sure the openings have tunnels. In test, they out fished the flat openings by 30%

good price.

likely an off-shore (china) product. take a look at the stainless closely and see if there is any surface rust forming (usually starts under the green rope that is looped over and over around the bottom of the frame) They will last you some years but not a lifetime. The quality of off-shore stainless is far lower than stuff made locally.

If you want traps to last a lifetime,

http://www.ladnertraps.com

but I know they are filling orders for the commercial opening coming up so there prawn trap stock is limited at this time. Traps are i believe 80-100 bucks, but again, they will outlast any trap on the market. Ladner Traps is a 'get what you pay for' kind of trap. Top Quality, hands down. Oh they use heavier guage stainless so unless you are fishing serious currents, wieghting them is not an issue

Where and how you fish will have an impact on how much weight you should use on your line. Back when I pulling by hand I did not use much weight. A few years back I got a call from the Powell River CG in August about prawn traps I had lost in March. I live in Nanoose. Might even have been 1 set of my Ladner traps. This year I returned 2 lost sets. Guess what, no weight on either one.

Do you have any photos of your traps? Would love to have a look.
One of my friends showed me how to make these last year, and I am glad he did. I now make them, and by buying all the material I can make various sizes etc.. Aqua mesh material, hog rings, etc. I can make them 40.00 each or so... They rock. If you are in nanaimo give these guys a call http://www.aquapacificwire.com. You can buy the stuff in rolls and make them yourself....Thinking about making some crab traps as well.

Ladner traps are good but pretty pricey, so I prefer to make them.
