Prawn trap question?

Figure to get a couple prawn traps on next summers trip. Probably Powell River this trip. What is the recommended trap? 1/4" poly rope good? Have an Ace Brutus puller.
Thanks in advance.

Most people like 5/16". Easier on the hands. I use a semi-sinking rope. I have used poly in the past. Cheaper for sure but doesn't coil as nicely.

I use folding rectangle and round traps. Round traps seem to consistently fish better. My combo bait is pellets and Caryle cat food. I also have an Ace Hauler. You want a sinking lead line, I run 400' with 2 traps on it. I would not suggest using poly-prop rope, it's a floater and a prop grabber.

Get the hands free for the Brutus. My rounds also fish better then the folding rectangle.
I use cheap 28" stainless rounds with 1/4"Chain around the bottom to help in the current.
A1 buoy, 7lb ball in front of the traps.
Oh, you should get 2 strings and 4 traps.
Helps dial them in, they can be finicky.

Thanks for the info. Maybe should be a different thread. I have seen the Ace Bulldog and also see the Handsfree Dualler Plate. Seems as if less slippage with the dualler. Anybody with opinions?

Have tried the both the hands free and the dueller plate. I prefer the dueller plate but I modified the bracket that peels the line off the drum as with the original the rope would jump off the bracket.

My traps are large and heavily weighted. I tried a buddies Ace Hauler with the and the Bulldog slipped a lot. The Dualler Plate works much better for me. No slippage at all.

How big of a loop does the coil end up being with the Bulldog Hands free if its laying it on the deck?
