Port Renfrew

Fished Camper to Logan tuesday ,4 springs in as many hours, dead after 10 am.Had a seasick women on board so didn't make it to the bank. Anchovie in green and army truck teaser heads at 40' for all the springs .

Well I'm heading up to fish friday and saturday. Going to fish Camper and maybe East point. I might drift around the flats off sombrio for a bit to to see if there's any hali's kicking around

Fished Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for 4 salmon. Logan first thing was the best bet--not much happening at Camper.

Both are good. Campsite is very busy this year and its not all fisherman. Usually people still partying when you get up in the morning. We even had a guy walk through our site last weekend, late night and ask if a tiny spot beside us was a camping spot, was not impressed. If you left on a Friday night it could be tight to find a spot. I am doing the same tour as you next week, is that your Grady in East Sooke, I will say hi.

Stayed at the campground from Monday to Thursday. Reports of theft, so keep things locked. Should be okay midweek as the fish derby just ended. Was good moorage at that time.

No I'm in a 20' Hewes Searunner, the one in the pic in my posts. Be there Monday afternoon.

We were out Saturday and Sunday. We took three on Saturday between Camper and Logan and a pair of twins from Logan on Sunday. Bite seemed to come on around 11am. All on bait.

After talking to the folks at Port Renfrew Marina, here's the report I got:

Over twenty salmon above 30 pounds were caught over the weekend, including three in the 40s. One report said there was a non-stop bite at Logan Creek from noon to 2 pm. Desi Hatcher won the Davey Derby, with the largest spring salmon at 41.7 pounds and largest halibut at 70 lbs. A 47 pound salmon was caught later in the afternoon, but too late to weigh in. The Marina's website in the next few days will have an updated report with pictures.

Sounds good!

When do you think it will pick up again?
I'm thinkin August 2nd week should start to heat things up I hope because that is when I will be there.
It seems like fishing was a lot better last year from the reports I am reading. I don't know much about it but isn't this time of year supposed to be outstanding with daily limits?

rumour has it someone got a halibut off camper? anyone hear this?. I swear I hooked one out there early july , but never got a glimpse [V]

Not sure how things will shape up this year, August 2 nd 4 years ago 226 springs weighed in on that day.

Was out yesterday for the day and boated a 27 and 31 lb plus lost another due to frayed mainline. Was reported to be slow the past 3 days but you never know when or where things turn on at Renfrew.
Both springs were whites, which I thought was interesting. Sounds like most of the fish taken were the same as they were all big.

What size chovie do you guys like in Renny? The 12 pack (5.25'') or the 10 pack (5.5")?

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

I landed 10 spings in two day at renfrew there was three of us in the boat ,4 over 30 4 over25 and a 2 low 20 ,when cleaning them there full of needlefish you fish with what you have confident in and you will have success[:p]

I usually fish the 8 or 10 pack. From Mon - Wed we were getting fish on both. The last fish I got on Wed had a Large fistfull of needle fish in it's gut and two blobs of orange mush with little balck eyes. Time to try the tiger prawn gear?
