THere are more halibut then you can shake a stick at on Swiftsure, my crews tubbed out both Friday/ Saturday. Standard issue 20lb, the guys anchoring up inshore got a little bit bigger. If you don't get one in the first 5 minutes, MOVE.

There are also some springs around the bank too, I hit some on the south side, the guys on the north side did well too.

For Mondays tides, look for things to start getting hot on the spots closest to home, you may not have to run all the way to the farther reaches.

We did a one day trip to Renny today and managed a limit in halibut and hoes. :D Awesome weather and great fishing offshore. Lots of krill in the area. As per usual, find the bait and you'll find the fish. The butts were coughing up krill as we landed them and so were the coho. Apparently the beach was slow for springs the past couple days ~ nothing like those Hardy reports I just read.

Got two springs off of Carmanah River , we were out from shore about 3/4 mile and trolling at 37 ft , Abe and Al flasher with glow white anchovy head on 78 in leader , other side Betsy in gold flasher with black and white hootchie on 44 in leader.
19 lbs and 22 lbs , the 19 lb fish was a white spring and lousy with sea lice the back tail and anal portion just covered !
Had to move down from Carmanah light due to the sea bass as advised by L.C. in previous post , thanks L.C.
Back up again next week , 4 more springs and thats all I take for the season , next up will be coho and I will take a dozen nice sized ones then it will be lings and drift around , drink beer and watch the world go by , fish on at these time is a bonus and thats when we experiment with outrageous rig ups !

Those Hardy reports are almost as good as the bank has been we have been hitting alot of fish every day with a couple 20-30 fish days m
mixed in yesterday was one of them flat calm and fish every where.

There is a ton of bait and there holding the fish in one spot easy fishing as well with little squirts being the hotest.

good to hear trevor, hopefully those fish keep on moving to sooke, and stick around for a few when they get here

Weather looks good and the report seem to be coming in. I am heading out to Renfrew in the morning. So far Camper creek seems to be a safe bet for Springs but how about close in halibut. Does anyone have any suggestions:)

i got out to renny,
i found no hali at all. not even a sniff. i tried n & s swiftsure. for around 5 hours, called it quits and went to the entrance of nitnat lake and trolled for chinnoks,.
in a hour an a half we got 16 fish.7 cohos and 7 springs and 2 black cod.
it was the fastest fishing ive ever seen.
an what a plesure releasing them.
we were in 70 ft of water, best depth was 59 on the rigger.
gear... purple haze teaser and flasher was the best producer with 11 of the fish.

we seen at least 8 different wales,2 bears and a few eagles.
and to top it off we caught a 30lb octopus while jigging for hali,
f*ck that was hard getting it in the boat for a few pics then threw it back

i hopes to be out at pedder bay over the weekend,

Where is the best place to get weather predictions for Renny?
Thinking of heading up for Saturday,
Thanks
Tips

I compiled my weather links onto on page for easy reference:
http://www.fishingportrenfrew.ca/weather.html

I find I end up checking them all, because they all differ slightly and some times a lot -- then compare notes, and decide what seems to be the best call.

I usually end up using a combo of actual observations (eg, neah bay and carmanah) and short-term reports (Enviro Canada and Nat'l Weather Service).

Good luck!

Thanks for all the weather info.
JDS - Lots of info there. I'll have to spend some time puting it together.
From what I see so far it looks like Sat will not be flat calm but should be alright in a 21 footer.

Tips

Hey, we are heading out for charter tomorrow and it looks like the tide will be about 4' when we head out - is that still within the threshold to get through the river mouth, or would they be over by the pub? Just wanted to make sure even though they mentioned couple days ago to meet at the marina.
