I take it this is for requesting lifts of the Second Narrows rail bridge?
When I read it I thought it included transiting vessels under both bridges and the Bridge Lift.

It would be nice to know if a conga line of Cruise Ships was about to leave the Cruise Ship Terminal and fill up First Narrows
.
Last year we waiting just outside First Narrows with a bunch of Granville Island Rental boats while two cruise ships crossed under the Lions Gate

Harbor patrol definitely restricts pleasure vessels transiting under the lgb when the cruise ships are passing by. Regardless of the time of day or how close to the north side of the channel you are.

Must be a new policy - we had our boat moored at the VRC for years and ran under the bridge many many many times with cruise ships ( I used to annoy my wife by mooning them :-) .
At that time there was only a few specific type of vessel (fuel barges mainly ) that got a formal "clear narrows" designation.
the cynic in me wonders if this isn't case of some particular Harbour boat jockey on a power trip.

as far as knowing if/when they are about to exit - ch12 ( I think, I can't remember for sure ) is your friend - they will do several calls to traffic - pre-departure, departure etc, lots of warning

Why would you wait?
Cruise ships don't get a "clear the narrows" priority call, as long as you are reasonably close to the shore plenty of room.

Harbour Patrol was out with Blue-Flashy Lights a-winking.

One of the Rental boats came up to me when we were doing slow circles and just floating around and said "why are we stopped ?"

I explained that Harbour Patrol when their lights are flashing are sort of like "the Water Police" and they are telling us to stop.

Meanwhile, a few rental boats raced right down the side of the two cruise ships.

Just watch the indicator lights on both sides of the lgb too if you're too lazy to hop on 12.

If the port had their way the entire thing would be closed to rec boaters entirely.
