Port Alberni

Heading down to Poett Nook a week this Tuesday, the wife is going to drive the truck and camper and I'll take the boat down the inlet. Where in Port is a good safe place for me to leave my trailer for Four days?? I don't mind paying, so long as it is safe! Anyone know how long it takes to drive from Port to Poett Nook, and how long does it take by water? Can you launch at any tide at Clutesi. Thank you

I've left my trailer for extended periods at both Clutesi and at the Clutesi overflow (across on Beaver Creek road in the grass). I've never had a problem, but then again I have never left anything that even resembles value in the truck. Really isn't that much $$, $5 a night I think.

Driving a truck and trailer (no boat) for someone who does not drive gravel much, I would suggest two hours is lots (that is how long it took me from Bamfield to Port towing my boat last week). By water to the Nook is dependent upon speed, I usually bank on an easy 90 minutes to Bamfield at 25-30mph. Just remember, Nahmint blows up in the afternoon so you want to be through by 10 or 11 or wait until evening. I'm conservative so would rather not tempt fate and go through when it is hot outside and that wind blows up in the afternoon.

The Bamfield road is really good at the moment but is VERY dusty and leaves one heck of a mess on a boat!

Sorry, no clue about launching at the Nook, I alwasy run down.

Cheers

I did the same thing last year, I launched at China Creek, and left the trailer there. I thought that way I had my wife part way down the Inlet. It took her around 1 1/2 hours to drive the truck and camper, I think the boat trip was under an hour. I agree, get out before the early afternoon wind, head up the inlet in the morning.

Low tide can be fun due to the speed of the river. The ramp does get a little shallow, but it's a great ramp and can be done at any tide. (You will be lauching right at low tide) Just be aware of the river current when you back out of the dock area.
1 hour to Poett. I've never had a problem leaving my vehicle there.
