I am planning to fish Port Alberni this summer for sockeye salmon . When is the best time to come? I have an 18 foot aluminum with 130 Etec set up with Scotty downriggers. I would like to leave it in the water when I am not using it. Is this possible? Also looking for a good place to stay. All information welcome.
Thank you.

Do a search, and there should be a ton of info on this site. Typically sockeye fishing is in full swing by the 3rd week in June. I have been fishing sockeye in the inlet for ten years or so, some years the stars align and fishing is unreal, others it's a huge disappointment. I find that the fish come in waves so sometimes we miss the fish by only a couple of days, even though we book the same week every year. Also if there's fish around dfo allows the seiners to fish the inlet hard which can impact sport catch of course. China creek is a popular spot to camp and fish, usually you can fish out front of the marina, or if you have to run its only a few miles. Don't forget if the spring is cool and the river is high the fish dont school up, they just swim past everyone.

At this point I would wait and see if there will a fishery this year...forecast doesn't look good... but things do change....

Can I rent a slip at China creek. I would like to leave my boat in the water. My wife and I have a hard time putting the boat of and on the trailer . Are there cabins to rent at China creek? If not where do you suggest I stay?

IMO, late June is the best
Very clean fish and better biters, but as others have said each year is different based on run #s and water (river) flows. I live in Port, some years are a bust but you'll know by mid June if the fish start to school or not.

Don't count on it this year boys, there very well might not be enough for a fishery...we all hope that changes but at this point prelim info suggest ~200k, which wouldn't be enough for any fisheries.
