I just witnessed this boat pulling 7 prawn traps on one string. I did call it in to dfo. I even got the registration.
Trying to figure out how to post a picture. However it is a weldcraft 20 angler registered. C27591bc

They did not throw any berries ones back.

Good work Ig .Not to hijack your post but I think we need a desending device for berried prawns. gulls come right to the side of the boat.

It's sad. They just reset 2 strings and went over to the other side and are pulling traps over there right now. I hope dfo deals with this. Their boat also has a 115 Merc on the back.

That boat is registered in Port Alberni. DFO might be able to get officers to wait for them at the docks when they come in if they don't have members out on the water..

Those guys are out prawning multiple times a week. I passed them coming in the other day. From what I saw it looked like the local “keepers of the land”. You know, the same group that sells coolers full of crab for cash on the reserve and is seen craning totes of salmon into reefer trucks at the boat ramp every summer.

The file number with dfo is 20-0334
There are 2 witnesses including myself that will go to court to testify against this poaching.
I sincerely hope dfo deals with this better than Trudeau has dealt with a few other renegades!!!

Please follow up with DFO and let us know what happens.

I just noticed your post says the vessel number was a “c” number. I believe this means commercial.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were out getting reconciliation prawns.

No you're confusing a "C" Transport Canada commercial number which just means operating as a business like charters, water taxi, or any working job on the water, but not DFO Commercial fishing. That's a separate thing that is governed under DFO itself and that's called a VRN (Vessel Registration Number) which is a different number and is not on at the bow of the boat where BC and C numbers are placed. If that boat was a DFO registered Commercial fishing vessel it would have had another 5 or 6 digit number in huge numbers placed in an obvious place visible from far away.

This is what the numbers look like on a DFO commercial fishing vessel:

These threads are always a bit dicey when there is not a clear case of law's being broken. Suspicion of illegal activity combined with lots of assumption, as is the case here, leads to potential false accusations from people and puts us in a potentially tough spot if this turns out to be false. It has been reported to the proper authorities and we will now let them decide if charges are warranted.
