PNT commits to producing the Original CJ Special

Charlie Jones & Pacific Net & Twine make an agreement for the purpose of producing this popular hand tooled trolling spoon. Finalization of their licensing agreement are in the works, as is the design and tooling gone into machining phase to develop the tooling needed for mass production of Charlies now hand formed, hand painted & finished lure.

The CJ Special mimics the action of a wounded bait-fish, and has been known to trigger attacks by numerous species of fish from around the globe in both fresh & saltwater.

The production model of the Original CJ Special is due out in time for the 2012 fishing season. The first size to be introduced will be a 3 1/2 inch spoon in four to six color patterns.

Currently, there are nine perfected PAT. PEND. sizes that have been proven to catch fish in a myriad of places and various species from trout to char, to bass, to pike, to salmon, steelhead, barracuda and more…

The size chosen for 2013 is the 5 1/2 inch – can’t wait!

Funny, I've been trying like hell to find some of these, heard about them awhile back, thought they were already being produced. I did find some other plastic "look a likes" but not the real thing, cant wait, would have liked to have tried them this winter on feeders

Duncan pawn shop has a box of 4 or 5 inch green ones brand new. I didnt know what they were when I saw them but had just picked one up at the hatchery sale.

They look like they would be heavy ?
can they develop a good action with the weight ?

These lures have one of the most interesting actions that I have seen - one thing to note on them is, that they are very bait size specific. I can fish one size in an area and get nothing, then swap sizes and fish the same color and depths and kill them. I have caught numerous salmon, halibut and ling, along with other bottom fish. In the four years that I have been helping Charlie, I have personally had great success with them, as have a number of other anglers who have helped with the testing process. Charlie has been working on perfecting these lures for many, many years...he now has 9 sizes that all catch fish. I really like them, and I use them every time that I am out fishing. Almost like everything else, some days they work well and it is all that the fish will take, other days about the same as any other lure. We have narrowed the colors down to the top three basic painted color tones and three glow, for a total of six. This lure has been worked on and fished hard for the last four years.

The lure is made out of sheet aluminum, very strong and durable, we have never bent one while catching fish yet. There is no tuning necessary. It rolls, and swaps and jumps out of line consistently. We have numerous fishing guides up and down the coast using them, commercial trollers and other anglers who have had great success. The CJ Special is in my top five of ten lures to go to.

Just so you know...it has been brought to my attention that there are websites online advertising the CJ Special lure for sale. The lures being advertised are not "CJ Specials", they are Perfect Roller. The Perfect Roller is a totally different lure.

CJ Specials will only be available through Pacific Net and Twine after May 2012, until distribution channels have been set. Then later on in the season other stores will have them available. Today, the only CJ Special lures that are being fished are the test lures that Charlie makes by hand, they are not for sale pre-production models.

Hope that fixes any confusion being caused by the online shopping websites that are advertising the Perfect Roller as a CJ Special Lure.

I can vouch for the real original cj specials as I have fished them for 3 seasons now. I have cleaned my boat and tackle boxes of almost all other tackle and pretty much fish them exclusively for spring salmon while always picking up the odd Hali and ling on them aswell. Of the 60+ springs caught on my boat in the gulf islands this year all have been on a cj special. I have been lucky to have met the inventor Charlie and have gotten to know him over the past 3 years. As he keeps creating his new visions he gives me a few to try and I've accumulated quite an assortment of the different colors and sizes. Aswell as fishing year round in the gulf islands we have gotten our limits everytime we have ventured out to the west coast catching limits of huge spring and coho on charlies 5 and 7 inch cj specials in the pilchard pattern. The blue/yellow, lime green/yellow, red/yellow with silver and or gold prism tape on the sides with black dots down the lateral line. It truly comes down to their very real size, shape, and appearance of these lures combined with their perfect roll and swap action that fish just can't resist. They are heavier than your typical trolling spoon so they need to be trolled fast like a plug to get them really dancing rolling 4-5 times one way then swapping directions and rolling back the other way. I have had best results trolling them 40"-84" (goto 60") behind a good glow or glow/silver flasher. The bigger sizes 5-7 inch can also be trolled without a flasher with good results. Hopefully we'll have some in stored soon as this is shaping up to be an amazing winter season for springs with lots of good reports and a dozen winter springs on my boat so far including a 20lb hatchery red on dec16. All on cj specials!!!

Peterman, did you have good success with them last season? what sizes were you using?

Been using them for a few years now and they work for sure , not my first choice to put out but they defiantly work consistently !

Only was able to run them about 10 times... Renfrew/Ucluelet and the Sunshine Coast.... Produced equally aswell as other spoons and hootchies....especially out of Ukee when we were really into the fish... What was nice about them was, they stood up to dozens of fish, where some of my coyote's and other gear would just fall apart...
I like to try and buy quality gear where i can now... they will get a good test this year coming up for sure...
