pink size & ocean fertilization

after hearing about the ocean fertilization the first thing i figured was - it should not increase the amount of returning fish - but rather the size. Since pink salmon run a two year cycle (half of a sockeye)... would they not have encountered the alleged "increase in biomass" up there?

i have heard from multiple people that there are some impressive sized pinks this year - could the rogue scientist be behind this?

smaller runs produce larger size pinks the fish in very large runs are usually smaller 4 or 5 lbs must be a feed issue

I havent seen as many pinks as usual for this time of year. We normally fly fish for them in the estuaries on the north end of the island starting about this week.

I too have noticed exceptionally large pinks tho that I have caught trolling.

I agree with your hypothesis based on my very biased observances!

The pink run this year is roughly half what it was in 2011. The estimated run size for 2013 is 8.9 million compared to 17.5 million in 2011. This is solely because of increased commercial fishing for pinks in 2011. Prior to 2011 the commercial pressure on pinks was very low and that is the reason the runs increased up into the 17-20 million mark.

Reading this just made me sad. 2011 was such an awesome Pink year and the thought of never seeing that again is just depressing.
