Pics from a float plane trip

I have been hunting for a new Vancouver Island home over the past month or so. On one of my trips I hired a float plane to take me to a home for sale on Nuchatlitz Island by Nootka. Thought you guys may enjoy these pics as most of us that have fished the area are used to viewing it all from our boats and not from the air. It's pretty spectacular viewing it all by air. Breathtaking really. Nootka area is my favorite of all locations I've fished out of on the island. I flew out of Gold River.

Stunning. What camera did you use? It reminds me of my dad picking me up after my last day of commercial fishing in Port Hardy. It might have been the last time I flew with him. Thanks for the memories and the reminder to get back in the air as often as possible.
These are all just from a Samsung Note 10. It takes great pics and I was surprised too how nice they came out. I'm glad it struck a memory with you Kaelc. Time with your dad doing that is very special. You are lucky to lived that way on our coast. Our coast is just so beautiful. I hope to one day do a fly over trip from Port Hardy up to Haida Gwaii and spend some time up there. That and a boat trip up there are on my bucket list cause I'm yet to see that part of BC. Rivers Inlet has been on my to do list for so long now as well.

Nice. So great that we have such amazing cameras in our pockets at all time. Rivers inlet you can keep em, last time I read the regs. We bonked a small guy, to help the gene pool and saw tyee+ several caught and released and a couple bonked. I just put my new video out on our trip. I totally recommend the north island, just manage your fuel, I wasn't sure if Woss had fuel and I blew past Sayward towing 7k pounds. Fortunately they have electric chargers, overpriced gas and booze. I hope to do a winter or spring trip to the north island this year and take friend out who lives and hardy and who works too much!

Right on. I will check out your video. That's great about Rivers. Ya I even had a special cradle net made by a friend that owns Moby Nets just for the bigger Rivers fish so I could C&R the big ones and not handle them. Just haven't got to use it yet unfortunately. Lol ya I hear ya about fuel and trips. I have done the exact same thing and blown past a fuel stop that I should have filled up at. I usually carry extra gerry cans just in case I do that again. I have learned from my mistakes over the years of trips lol.

Great Pix!
I recognize a lot of those locations from my time with Area G Troll. Spent a LOT of time up that way alright, and even tied to one of the docks you showed from time to time.

Cheers!

Right on IronNoggin. I'm glad you enjoyed them. I was hoping it would bring back some memories for guys and to see the area a lot of guys know from a different viewing point. I was in awe of it all.

Cool pics. Sometimes I "tour" an area with Google maps with the aerial photos, but it doesn't compare to flying through an area.

I looked at that home for sale recently too (online). The location is absolutely spectacular! That's a big change in lifestyle from living in the city or even a more rural place that still has roads. How was the place in person?

The place in person is amazing and shows so much better in person than online. And you could never build all that's there for the asking price. The solar/generator power is all very well done and are interconnected.
I was prepared to live off grid on the island but two things kept me from purchasing it. There is a strata with directors and a 52 page strata rules file. In those rules there's no businesses allowed unless the directors approve. I couldnt get a concrete answer from the realtor who i asked to check with the directors if they woukd allow me to charter from it and use it as a home and lodge. Too risky to invest, live there. Build a business then be at their mercy whether they continue to allow it or not. My lawyer also looked over the 52 page strata stuff and said stay away if that's what you hope to do there.

The other issue is no other owners there on the island (there are 12) live on Nuchatlitz through the Winter months. So if I was there alone through Winter and I got injured or an emergency happened, the only emergency services/help I would be relying on would be the coast guard out of Tahsis which is 35 km boat ride away.

The owner gave me the tour. He is 72 years old and doesn't live there all year. He bought the raw land in 1972 and has built everything there on his own. He even built his own wood mill to build everything along with building his own wood boat from scratch in the shop he also built there behind the home. The blue boat in the picture is that same boat. He used to do oyster farming there when he was younger and did very well but shut it down when he got older. And I inquired about that too as tge strata rules allow farming but now that's out of the question too as Nuchatlitz is now a protected marine park.
