Thats it I have had it with a reel repair shop in Vancouver. Sent my reels in 2009 for repair got them back in May 2010. Sent the weight to the bottom and tried to bring it back up a few feet, no go brought it in by hand. ****-- Then get back in send them off again Im talking 2 reels. Just phoned them wanting to know where my reels are sorry we are waiting for bearings. Why are you waiting for bearings you billed me $400.00 dollars to rebuild 3 reels and the two you have are the ones you rebuilt in 2009, only dropped to the bottom and brought back in by hand, oh she said we replaced the washers and fixed that problem if you need them we will send them back to you but with out fixing the bearings wtf. oh ya you owe us $78.00 more dollars for the work we just did Holly Sh--. Lost it.

On a great note I've had a set of Gerber Pliers for 6yrs and where falling apart. Sent them back to Gerber just under 2weeks ago, just got a new pair. nice.

Cheers All,

I have been using Country Rod Crafting and Reel Repairs in Nanoose and he does a great job in a very reasonable time
frame. Oh...and his prices are also very competitive!

broke my brand new penn230 first use last year hali fishing. sent into mikes September 2010. got it back 2 weeks ago. Took them about 2 months to order the part, no idea what they did until february with it, then it was apparently being shipped for half of feb into march. go figure! and it only shipped ( i think) after 5 phone calls in one week asking them where it was because i got it a week after that.

These make for fantastic Halibut reels. They are bulletproof with a minimum of moving parts. They are a dream to work because they are under the rod not over it so you don't have to fight them and they have amazing line capacity and pickup. Wish I had found them years ago before wasting $700 on Penn level-winds that all needed expensive repairs in no time.

Agreed 100%. Called him about a couple parts I needed for my mootching reels and had them in my hand the next day. Cost was very reasonable.

I have had nothing but good service from River Sportsman in Campbell River. Only holdup once was when they had to get washer set for an old Sealine out of production ,from Mikes. Took three weeks for Mikes to mail them.....

Good to know a bout the Gerber pliers too. I've got one of those.

Good to know about the business should I need them.

Just on a side note and not meant to hijack.....I always keep a Leatherman with me on the boat and I have had about 3 of them as "stainless" steel totally rust up despite being dried out and freshwater rinsed. I have taken them back to the place I bought them and they have given me new ones twice...they have dealt with the warranty and this winter I just sent mine back in on my own. Those things can rust up something fierce to the point of the "foldout" tools breaking right off in some instances. I would never buy another one but since they keep replacing I am still using it.

Gypseas the website for reel repairs is a goldmine of information. Thank you I have been looking for this. With this I can fix any reel I have.

Hourston i've had the same prob with those guys for years . There latest scam i sent in a couple reels like yours they fixed them and first time to bottom jammed up here's where it gets good (these reels are under warrenty) send them back in and get them 9 months later with a bill i say i'm not paying there under warrenty and they say we just fixed them last year you must be doing someething wrong. Needless to say they are still sitting on island outfitters shelf and they can rot for all i care! Oh ya OKUMA

10-4 on Mike. He lives on my road and is a great guy. When i have reel problems i just pop over and he ushually sends me on my way within 10 minutes at a great price. I would be beyond pissed if i had to deal with the nightmares some of you guys had.

Roger that, but we should point out MIKE of Country Rod Crafting is not MIKE of Mike's Reel repair. In case anyone got confused.
