Permanent Marker on Floats

In the ensueing wars between telus, shaw, and a partner going to fish the big pond in the Sky, I need to change Phone no.,names etc. etc and tidy up my prawn and crab floats. Tried acetone, bleach, goo begone. Anybody have anything that works or a suggestion to remove permanent marker? Yeah-I know that's why it's called permanent. LOL

Give deep woods off a try it works good on permanent marker. Never tried it on a float though.

No, sorry spring fever I couldn't get permanent marker off my buoys either. So, I painted over the old phone numbers using rustoeum paint in larger letters...turned out pretty good. You could go even further by painting a large, blank portion on the buoys or floats and then painting the new info on top of the blank area. Kinda of like starting over again. I watched videos, where guides just use duct tape to temporarily put on clients names on the floats. Just some suggestions.

use a vandalizim mark remover ---home depot or crappy tire should have something ----then clean it all with soapy water after before putting in the deep blue

Thanks guys for all the help-Deep woods off moved it a bit-The best was a soaked cloth in acetone-but you will never get it pristine as it is right in the material. Does fade it pretty good-depending on what marker was used-so you can mark over it. Course there is always duct tape when I have other than my usual crew on board.

I just put my name and my girlfriends name on the floats if another buddy is with me they fish her floats. Not sure if the DFO would really care as long as there are not too many traps?

You might get away with it but it is illegal! The name of the person fishing the floats is supposed to be on them. I usually just run the duct tape over the original name and put the guests name and ph no. on-then no worries.

That's what I use. Duct Tape and a magic marker. The above statement is also quite true. The name and on the float must match the name on the license of the person fishing.

Did you try Magic eraser? I find they remove most stains. At least get the darkest off and let the sun take care of the rest.

So here is what I tried, Gas,vim, rubber rv roof cleaner, magic eraser, comet, bleach, glass cleaner ,stove cleaner, bar-b-que cleaner, mineral spirits, acetone. The only thing that worked somewhat was deep woods Off, acetone and vandilizer remover. Never tried vandilizer remover but it is essentially acetone so I didn't bother. You won't get them pristine but fades them enough that you can change a phone no. etc.

Not totally on topic but I prawn with a few friends and family as well as share my traps so I have gone to scotsmans with no markings and then I purchased some cheap boat bumpers and put my name and number on these. I then attach the named boat bumper with a small carabiner.
Each person that I prawn with is responsible to buy 2 boat bumpers with their name on them and use them when they are with me or borrowing my traps.
Seems to be working out.
Using duct tape was getting really messy.

Thanks for posting your results, Spring Fever. It seems like you tried most everything and the scotchman (buoys) are light enough in color that the permanent marker doesn't quite come off. I must admit the paint doesn't come off that easy either, as I have tried to remove it years ago too. But the permanent marker fades too quickly and I was getting tired of re-doing the info multiple times... so I prefer paint over the marker.
