Peetz reel warped

Hi all,
I recently refinished a peetz reel and had the new one way drag installed. I spooled it with 250 feet of 40 lb power po and topped it off with 25lb Maxima line. I was really happy with the tension setting. A slight turn of the knob and it was all done no line creep and a nice modest tension for the reel. I have used the reel four or five times and caught a couple of shakers, nothing more than a couple of pounds. I was out last Saturday and picked up a grey cod. It was big for a grey cod maby three pounds, but nothing really to test the reel. as I was winding it in, the reel all of a sudden became very hard to wind. when I had dealt with the fish I took the reel apart to discover the brass back plate on the reel had warped.
Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened?
I'd like to try to fix the reel, but I dont want this to happen again

I would go and take/call to Art at Peetz, and see what happened.

In the old days we would put a flasher on the line after fishing for the day and spool off the amount of line you had out that trip....wind it back on with just the slight resistance from the flasher skipping on the surface.

I will take it back to Peetz. I am sure they can fix it. I am just wondering why it happened.

Thanks for the advice Profisher. I would have thought that there was not too much tension on the line as I havent really caught anything with it yet. Obviously there was enough

When I took my Peetz reels to get line on them I was told to put about 100 feet of dacron line (does not stretch). When you put mono line on the hub something called "winching" happens. Basically line gets stretched out then when reeled onto hub it retracts and squezzes the hub. This is not a problem on a regular hub but is on a wooden reel. I tried the whole peetz reel thing because they were a cool story and neat to look at, a coversation piece really. I quickly went back to my Daiwa mooching/trolling reels. Hope this helps and if you want more info call Buckys Sports shop in Duncan and ask to speak with Kelvin. He was the one who informed me on the winching problem.

I had spooled it with 250 ft of Power Pro and topped it with Maxima line to avoid this problem

Just take it to Peetz they will help you always have and always will seen this happen for my whole entire life , we always used dacron as its more of a cushion, we used to use nothing but them up at the lodge before all the fancy reels came in nothing beats a clicker of one of these...hearing 2 or 3 boats in a calm inlet with fish on is a cool sound!!!!
Peetz is a awesome company and doing great things and LOCAL what more can you ask for, GREAT guys and while your there you can buy some sand lance spoons thats where Andrew has his shop set up to sell his spoons

Im taking it down there tomorrow

It looks like I had the reel spooled with "too much line" I filled her almost to the top dreaming of the day when I caught a big ripper and the old reel was singing as the line peeled out.
The guy at the desk said he would try his best to get it back for me, we will see how it goes.
Thanks for the advice guys
