I renewed mine maybe 2 months ago and the new one came in the mail 3 weeks ago.

I saw the writing on the wall prior to the OIC, and was nervous they might eventually target RPAL's.
Applied just over a year before it was due to expire.
Received within a few months, and did not lose that year.

Website recommends 3 months, at least you can bug them and say you applied before the recommended time if you apply early.

I have heard of one guy that works for an armored car service that was out of work for a month because his PAL expired even though he applied 6 months in advance.

One of my coworkers applied and kind of forgot about it until he realized he hadn't received his new one. Phoned in and asked, they told him his wife has to sign a form, he said he hadn't received it. She said oh ya that's because we haven't sent it... Next phone call was from an RCMP officer who laughed when he told him the story. Said let's revisit this in a few months.
