My son just bought a 1973 Nova SS.
It's fairly straight, hardly any rust.
Newer suspension, Trans, etc.
He's looking to get some body work and a paint job.
Does anyone here do this as a side line ?
(He's in Mill bay)

Scott, there's a guy close to us - does a lot of older GM stuff - he used to own 1550s restaurant. I haven't got his contact info but I was speaking to him in front of his house the other day. I'm away til the 14th but need to talk to him for myself. Let me know if you want his coordinates.

Muscle cars are getting harder and harder to find now a days. If they are advertised in a paper they usually are asking to much or it is totally bagged. To many people watch Barrett Jackson or Car reno shows and think their car is gold. Over the last few years, what I have found is you need to know someone with a muscle car and buy it from them.

Even big block engine are disappearing faster than the salmon are. There are not to many rectangle port BB any where any more so to have a BB in this Nova is an added bonus. BB are a lot of fun to drive but they go though rear tires fasts.

Once it is in better condition apply for collector plates. With collector plate my car insurance when from $840 to $225 and $880 to $250 for the same coverage. I think 1973 is in the collector pate category.

That car has good bones and is a great project car for this winter. I hope to see it at one of the car shows in the future.

Hope you find a local painter and if you don't go to the mainland

My dad has been looking to get his 67 Fairlane convertible into working shape for too long now. It's been sitting in his garage for 25 years. Seems like guys that are still willing to work on old cars are charging a pretty penny, and the car just isn't worth anything close to what the repair costs are being quoted at. He's had numbers of over 100k to get it to a shiny, reliable driving condition. But that's far from a full resto. I think that's crazy talk. If he could get an engine rebuild, suspension and tires, little bit of rust in the quarter panels taken care of and a paint job for 40k he'd be all over it. Otherwise the car isn't worth fixing at this point. It's really sad because it's a cool car, just not camaro, GTO or other classics cool.

Anyway, cool car. That'll be a lot of fun to drive. I miss the smell and sound of high octane fuel exploding out of 8 super soakers. Good luck with the project.

Collector plates are available for 25+ years old vehicles - so year 2000 and older right now. My 92 Miata has been on collector for 8 years. Other than condition, the only real limits are not driving to work or school and having a vehicle on 'regular' insurance. In the next 3 months, my 01 Dodge Ram 2500 will be eligible. I'll need to do a bit to get the condition ready, but I'll save it back at ~$1000 a year in reduced insurance. The Miata and the Dodge will both be linked to my wife's vehicle.
