It's amazing how many people out there don't know that storm drains lead into the creeks and rivers. So many people dump paint and crap down storm drains thinking that it's the same thing as rinsing your paint brush in the sink.

Unfortunately, in many earlier-developed cities/municipalities that is a correct assumption - sometimes the older municipal systems in the older sections of cities only collect and don't treat household "grey" water and often they are discharged in a pipe w/o any treatment that combines sewerage discharges and run-off even still today. Rupert and Alberni are but 2 examples of this legacy - there are dozens more.

And... that also brings up the issue of agricultural herbicides/pesticides as well as highway run-off (e.g. 6PPD-Q) into our waterways.
