Our otter hobbies.

[Fish Camp]

Was out in the 11 foot tinny 2hp trolling slowly in the fog and heavy mist with shore on my portside 30m this week.I came across a sea otter on my starboard side swimming the same direction on its back ,I could now see the otter quite clearly at 20m .a random thaught occured to me to wave simular to the queen of england and imidiatly the otter raised its paw and waved side to side a few times mimicing me.I was ammazed and felt dumb for doing such a thing ,laughing to myself and drawing nearer to 10m several seconds later ,i had the courage to try again ,so i waved again like the queen ,yes the otter waved back and with a pause of awh he rolled over and i was into a 14lb coho .

I don't think I know you fish Camp but I'm betting you are slightly older with a salt and pepper beard. Clearly the otter thought he recognized you and by the perplexed look on his face he was wondering how or why you were in a boat!! LOL I gotta get OTTER here and go fishing!!!

Whenever I take someone new to Nootka/Espernaza I always enjoy easing up to a raft of otters and telling my guests to wave at them and then enjoy their reaction when a few wave back. I have no idea why they do that but it happens the majority of the time. We are all so lucky the things that we get to witness and enjoy pursuing our hobby
