It had been slow around the Vancouver area until yesterday when all hell broke loose and all kinds of Salmon followed all kinds of bait into the bay in front of the city.

Had decent fishing last night, lost a 16# Spring Salmon @ the boat and the bay was full of bait and more fish so my partner and I to head out again @ 05:30 hrs this AM.

Although the weather was beautiful action was slow-and then we spotted the reason.

A pod of around 40 Orcas had come to see the sites and were cruising and feeding along the W. Van waterfront then headed out toward us off Spanish Banks.

Quite the sight dozens of large, and at least 2 tiny, baby Orcas surging past us as we sat bobbing on the water in a 15' RIH.

Just a few pics, not mine forgot the camera, at one point there were so many Orcas the only way you could not see an Orca was to close your eyes.

Note this is a 20 minute bike ride then a 5 minute boat ride from where I live. [8D]

Yeah thanks! Do you have any pictures of them chomping a seal?
Those are Residents, it the Transients that chew Seals.

I did plug a Seal with my slingshot right @ the Bell Buoy though.[}:)]

Ha, I got one on the side of the head in the same area. I wonder if it was the same one.
Is it legal to whack them with a sling shot?

Cool, I've never seen a pod of that size before. Quite the sight I'm sure. You got some good pics there.

Most I've seen was 14, a porpoise was staying on the inside of us within 50 ft. on every turn one day at the coal port. It was a couple of hours before we noticed the pod, no wonder he was keeping our boat between himself and the killers.
