On this day April 5, back in 1958

The Big Bang happened in Seymour Narrows to blow up Ripple Rock.
I still find this amazing that they managed to do this way back in the day.
It would doubtfully happen today with all the environmental concerns.
The water thru here can be nasty at times, can't imagine what it was like before the explosion.

Found a video showing how they placed the explosives and with a shot of how rough the water would get. This would have been awesome to see it go off.

My Dad was working in Campbell River the day it happened. He said he was about 1/4 mile inland from the blast and he could see the debris cloud and the ground shook like an earthquake.Would have been quite the thing to witness.
