On the road to pick-up my new to me Seasport

Made it home last night! Border guy’s questioned me quite heavily about the low purchase price, ended up calling the dealer who confirmed everything and I was on my way
I have seen a few of those episodes regarding a suspected low price on the border security TV show. They don’t mess around.

I can’t believe how hard they work over a working stiff who just drove 20+ hours to get his dream boat while millionaires offshore their money. Rant over, glad you made it through without any major hiccups or trailer issues. Eager to learn the details! It ain’t easy to find any well priced boats these days. For those shopping if it was a real broker it may set a new “market” price.

Always such a lottery when you cross the border. You just play a straight bat and declare it all, be it liquor, tobacco, or general purchases. Some days they're not interested in collecting taxes and you're waved on, other days it's the full program.

I lnow though that over the years I've paid a lot less in taxes than the official rates, by being upfront and declaring, giving clear, nothing to hide answers. Border guys see themselves as protectors keeping out danger in the form of drugs, guns, terrorists, criminals, diseases, animal pests. They don't see themselves as tax collectors, and will often waive those opportunities in favour of what they see as focusing on their real.job. You just cop it sweet on the occasions they do decide to work the revenue part of their role.

I have experienced the same, especially when I am bringing home stuff that is not available at home. Interesting tequila being my favourite.

Did you have to stop on the US side first to show a clear title on the boat before it was exported across the border to Canada?

that is just for motor vehicle's
Ya, I’ve bought a couple of cars in the US and always stopped with the clear title at US custom before coming into Canada as per their process/rules. The reason I’m asking about boats doing the same thing is that many boats have titles in the US too. The same risk can occur with respect to debt owing in the US on the asset leaving the jurisdiction where the title and debt is registered legally. I mean the reality is it’s no different than a car. I’m looking at buying my next boat in the US in the coming year and may launch in Seattle and run it into Canadian waters to clear Canada Customs. Wanna make sure it’s all done correctly.

if there is a debt owing in the states, the bank is listed on the title and holds the title in most cases

I’ve bought a couple of boats from the States and brought them home myself. No need to stop on the US side. Just make sure that your BoS is clear on the specific of the items and the price. Nobody ever asked about the title on the Canadian side.
If you’re buying a boat with no trailer, it’d be even less hassle to complete the paperwork, inspection and registration.

Last time I bought a boat state side (Oregon) I took $18K in cash to pay for it and stopped at Customs to show I was bringing the money to buy a boat, they couldn't care less, but your supposed to declare anything over $10K.I wouldn't buy a boat without receiving the title,it proves they own it outright ,otherwise the bank holds it on their loan.I tried to buy a 2470 Pursuit from a guy but he couldn't produce the title,so I bailed on a beauty boat.I didn't like carrying that much cash, but a cheque is no good for at least 3 days to clear.Same with a bank transfer, wouldn't clear internationally for days. How did you pay for your Seasport?

So what's the whole story on this? How did you find it? Why did they sell at a deal of a lifetime price? Is it for resale because you already own one? Which one are you keeping? Etc.,Etc.. We need to know and love to hear about great deals like Stizzla got on his.
