Old rod new life

I found an old abandoned mooching rod that was missing most of the guides and weathered corks. The glass blank is in good condition I figured I’d give the old rod a new set of guides and restore the cork this winter. Well hunting season only lasted 35 minutes so my winter projects are on the menu already. Not much information on what it is other than an army & navy sticker with PUL-M106 and another sticker stating it’s 10 1/2’ mooching rod line weight 15-17 sinker 1.5-3.0. Inches m surprised at how much backbone it has hopefully I get to try it on springs next year.

Heres a few pictures of the old vintage rod before its facelift.

Sounds like you have a hunting story to tell!

Not much of one lol. Got to a meadow at first light set up and called a few times zero response. Backed out to the truck moved up the hill a few miles and walked into the timber for round two. Set up again let out two faint cow calls and git an instant response from a bull. 20 minutes calling back and forth he came in screaming to 14 yards and presented a frontal shot. Hit him in the heart and left lung made it four or five steps and tipped over. 35 minutes of pure joy and a dark set of antlers that’s rare in my area we mostly get light racks due to popular stands they live in.

What a cluster @&$k first off I’m red green colour blind and have a hard enough time with the thread and rod colour together. I can’t see the thread anymore it’s to damn thin for my eyes now. Had a to break out the headlamp and flashlight to be able to wrap the bottom half. Put the colour preserver on awaiting epoxy
