what an absolute waste. oilers have proven they cannot put a top pick to good use, just an absolute waste imho. i hope they trade it to a more worthy management team, i mean how many chances do these idiots get at first round picks, 4 in 6 years ffs. pathetic, makes me sick to think about these aholes winning the draft again. there i'm done my rant now. how can mctavish not be fired by now ffs. if i was the owner i'd fire him right now and bring someone in with a proven record building a team. now they can afford to trade a couple of the other 1st rounders and really get something for them.

how many great young players have to rot away in this terrible organization. the fact that mactavish can confidently say there is zero chance of trading the pick makes it pretty clear the oilers are going to be just as bad for at least a couple more years. totally undeserved pick that is not going to help the team one bit and unfortunately the best prospect in years probably wont know what its like to win at the pro level unless he hits free agency in 3 years.

The oilers were great back then... But how many years are going to ride the Gretzky thing...Any other team that performed this poorly would be moved.... Remember this? Well that was then and this is now. I know people want to hold on to this image but.....

Eventually some will get all that talent to mesh. They are so weak on the back end I don't see it happening for a while.

We have seen draft pick can turn around a team BUT it usually means having a good young core in place to start with. Oilers have lots of potential but are not going anywhere yet. Still shy a goalie and a couple of D men.

rotting ?? wow, zero clue , players are very well takin care of there ,
one of them bein a Burnaby boy, he seems ta love it there , says they have a tight dressing rm ,
getting paid very well , getting a new state of the art arena in a year ,
having one of the best players in the world to come play with them for a very LONG time,
yes , it has been a brutal rebuild , and Lowe needs to be relieved , WAY over due ,
he actuaully resigned , but Ownership talked him into staying , MISTAKE ,
we definitely need ta pu a couple of d, and a goalie through trades , free Agency ,whatever..
if anything at all , atleast Mcdavid will be playing out west here for all of us to watch for years to come ,
yes the Oilers have had several first picks lately , but , they are no where near the caliber of this years draft .
there time will come , PATIENCE !! there kids lol....
time will tell , my prediction , he will make a large impact very quickly , IF they keep him ,

I watched live , think he was more surprised that he was asked that question is all ,
he hasnt been picked by anybody quite yet !

you think he'd rather play for Buffalo ,Toronto Arizona ?
they all suck even worse with no upside for a very long time ..
he can make a huge impact goin to the Oil , alot sooner than any other team imho ,

Just listened to him being interviewed.. I believe his family & support systems were down buffalo way but could be wrong....wouldn't be the first time...personal rolled my eye's when Edmonton got the first pick again..sure hope they can finely do something...fire all the management to start.. just my 2 bits..:0

cant speak on his behalf ,
players rarely play where there friends and family are from ,
gonna guess most players are just ecstatic to finally be in the nhl and workin , tryin ta put myself into Mcdavids head space here ,
most kids and eventual nhl'ers biggest dream , is winning the Stanley Cup one day ,
careers are shorter it seems these days , so your window of opportunity is limited , somthin like your Vancouver Canucks ,
that window is almost gone , your team stars are on there downslide , like it or not , hence the rebuild in progress...
Edmonton's window is barely even cracked yet , pretty sure i know where i'd wanna go , regardless if its a Edmonton Buffalo
or any other less desirable place to live 6 months a year , dont forget , these guys are on the road half the season livin the dream , playin a sport they love ,
and doin it all first class , im confident that if David does get picked by the Oilers , he will have the BEST chance at a Stanley Cup sooner than later,
its reality ,
there will be changes in personnel management and also marquee players ,come this summer , thats a given ,
, i expect to hear some somewhat shocking things to happen before the puck drops next year , time will tell
look forward to seein him in person coming season , welcome to the NHL David !! enjoy
