I'll be up prawning in saanich, hope to drop out and try to catch a salmon or two.

check the report here.

If you are prawning deep in Saanich Inlet, don't count on salmon...report says its decent at the top of the inlet though...surprising to me. If you head further south to Victoria though, seems the Oak Bay flats has a decent amount of good size hatcheries still mixed in there (between trial and discovery island)...

Deewar25,
thanks. Yes, that is about what I figured. We will be staying right near Butchart, so will be prawning I guess down that way. was planning to run outside to fish, maybe as far as Oak Bay.

So, is a squirt just a short smaller hootchie?

not necessarily - usually same length, but skinny body. Tried to find a google image, but hit too much x-rated stuff! Just ask at the store.

I have also had good luck with the blue stripe baitrix strip.

Pat Bay and Deep cove area have been producing salmon lately. It wouldn't hurt to drop a line out there. Gotta fish deep, 120-200 ft.
Anything small will work as they are feeding on needlefish.
