Are you going out?

First prospect of decent water in well FOREVER and I chose to put fish in brine today , that means I will be stuck to my smoker all day tomorrow.
Yard is so wet there is no way I could get boat out anyway. Have fun if ya go anyone.
Cheers.

Its looking even better then that now CL....

Hey Jencourt, You only brine for a day? I brine for up to a week. Go fishing.......

Should be good out there. I'm back for dec 30 and on. New years eve derby?

I wont know until tomorrow morning-- it might be Weds. Focus will be a prawn survey.. still have lots of salmon in the freezer!!

Why do you guys get the good weather?Last couple of days we've had still water in Nanaimo according to the automated reports but at 3:00AM!!!!It keeps increasing by about 2 knots per hour until by light it's getting iffy and by mid morning it's whitecapping.Maybe we're doomed not to get out after prawns until I have to go back to work.
Dave

We made it out today.Took my buddies big boat. Had a brief window of semi decent water but after about an hour and a half the wind started again and the water started to whitecap so we pulled the traps and called her quits.
The Killer Whales came by which was nice to see.
Dave

next weekend looks great at this point for south island
nothing over 5 knots according to big wave dave :D

"Dam the water was flat today..Seen tons of prawn survey's going on"

Actually Owen, it turned into a sunstar and graceful crab survey---- barely enough prawns for a cocktail..... But nice boat ride. Glad I didnt wait until today -- its blowing a cold NW. Looks like it will be a while before things warm up again without winds....

Had the traps in the boat tied up at the Comox boat launch when I discovered my hydralic tilt was seized in the 'up' position yesterday:mad:. FAAK! Figured it out by about 3 when it was too damn late!

Going to try the pm today from Union Bay.

I know 3 guys that limited out yesterday on bugs. In the spot I told you about on boxing day.

Maybe you were trying to hard....Surveying can be a hard job.

At 3 did you realize the trim lock was still engaged? LOL

Ha Ha Jackazz! No, I hadn't realized one of the fittings backed off and enough fluid leaked out to start sucking air and froth everything up. Still seized after loosening the pressure release but finally released after removing the hydraulic line to the main ram. Drained, re-filled and replaced missing gasket just in time for sunset!

Today's fun fiasco involved going out in weather my tin boat really should never be in (had to justify it's purchase!), unwittingly wrapping the line around the leg and successfully cutting off my 2 custom prawn traps and 400' of line in 220' of water. Hadn't got to the weight yet so straight to the bottom she went! I was trying to show my cousin the ropes and kinda thought he had things under control while I was trying to get some slack in the wind but it was his first prawning attempt so my fault! Bottom line, if I left the boat in the driveway for a better day I wouldn't be drinking my sorrows away. :(:(:(

Anyone got some extra traps/line collecting dust you might sell?

Where were you that it was windy? The water was flat where I was.

Did you try to drag for them afterwards?

Water was flat up at CR today. Lots of boats at the hump. Anyone get out? Talked to a guy on the pier today that said he and his kid went out yesterday and had really good luck for springs. Claimed the largest went 16#. After reading all the posts on this site that seems a little on the oversized end based on the other winter Springs people are getting. Fish story or possibility?
