Can anyone offer some info on the North island, I was wanting to take my dad up that way for a few days of fishing on the pond. I'm looking for any help with locations to fish that are not to harsh as my dad is not to comfortable on the water. I was thinking about staying at Alder bay, is there any fishing grounds close by???? any help would be very appreciated

If you can launch out of McNeill, trolling from ledge point to lady ellen point can be very good in august, and its also very protected and less than a kilometer from the port mcneill harbor if the winds do come up. Another good protected area can be mitchell bay, which is about equally far from mcneill and alder.

If you do get good weather though, i would reccommend the backside of malcolm!

Good luck to ya!

Use the "search" function in the upper right side of the page.. Tons of info has been posted on that area.

As mentioned already the search function is your friend. The backside of Malcolm (north side) is where most of the boats fish. There are lots of other areas to fish up there though. One thing, if you are staying at Alder Bay make reservations as their marina isn't very large. Also, make sure you print out all the rockfish conservation area maps in the area from the DFO website. There are lots of RCA & no fishing areas around PT McNeil-Alder Bay-Telegraph Cove.

I rarely post on here, but your question was right up my alley as I also am not very comfortable on the big water. Quatsino Sound is an awesome place to fish. You can fish inside all day long or you can dip the nose of your boat around Cliff point and have a look and choose to go out or not. Perhaps just troll up the wall there inside the Gilliam Islands (offering nice break from waves). Even when it's rough you can find a place to tuck your boat for a calm spot to fish.

You can access the Sound from many towns (Port Alice, Coal Harbour, etc. Have a look at a map and you will see how much area you can cover without having to get out in the ocean.

I've been going for 6 years (3 or 4 times a year) and I'm still not tired of it. Heading out there on the 21st! Look out fish, here we come!
