A coworker and his buddies when prawning off bowen island last week, They ate some raw prawns while out and all ended up with Norovirus.

Yes it's a thing. It's not in the prawn meat but the water on the shell. Would you drink water by sewer outfall or pick your fingers after swimming there. Any raw seafood eaten right out oc the water could have it.

Is it actually norovirus or something else? Done a lot of diving in BC waters and never heard of that before.

It's all GI stuff . I'm not worried what it is specifically.I have some experience with this stuff. Cook and no worries.

I've gotten real sick eating raw oysters and a ling cod eyeball once. Never from raw prawns.

We both managed to get the Norovirus while in San Francisco last year . We were self confined to a hotel room for 4 days.

Our room looked like a crime scene and we tipped the cleaning staff hugely every day.

I was a day ahead of my wife in the whole process.

It was one of those times when you understand why very sick people welcome death.

I finally called a pal who is in public health and he told us to get some Pedi-Lite. Never having had kids I was unaware of this "Elixir of Lfe."

The risk of severe dehydration is no joke.

We now keep 2 bottles of Pedi-Lite on the boat in the large first aid kit.
