This is what i've heard anyone else here of this.I like cut pluggin as well but give me a break.I know most of those guys quite well great guys but they sure think they own the spot.

This should get some guys going

???? Heard of what bananas ............ is there some sort of ruling coming out on gear type or ............ ?

AL

I think this is a proposal going up to the SFAB South Coast meeting this weekend in Nanaimo. If passed, it is then up to DFO to get it into the Regs if they agree with the proposal. A small group that is using the process to get exclusive use of a fishery....sounds more like they can't get along with the rest of the world....that should stir the pot!!!:D

Searun

no and I don't plan on it any time soon either. I just don't like seeing these exclusive use areas being set up. It starts small and grows, just look at what happened at Campbell River in the Tyee Pool. Started with just the Tyee pool and then expanded outward over the years. No need to start that stuff happening elesewhere, just more need for guys to just learn to get along and be happy.[8D]

I heard they got it passed already now were trying to get it overturned.Very sneaky!!!!!!!!!
Works for me my riggers just got stolen anyways lol

So a couple rods loaded with 100 lb braided and 6 oz on a long flat line would be fun trolled trough there to stir the pot!!!! lol

Everyone should first know the area that is being purposed. The local SFAC can supply you that info.
This area has a long history of the traditional cut plugging area with fishers from both Duncan,Victoria & surounding area's have made this area a life style.Problem has been over the last 3 years of tough chinook returns the riggers have started to push really hard into this area. I total agree with Searun everyone needs to learn to get along & respect each other and fishing styles.
Problem is I persoanal fish both style, more the riggers these days because their is no local areas where I can fish without being harassed by rigger guys because I'm cut-plugging.These two methods cannot fish together.I got tired of being yelled at to "get out of my way" or "ignored when a fish is hooked & it goes thur there rigger because they didn't want to get out of the way-you know teach that cutplugger a lesson. We are talking 2.1 plus knots verses .1 knots depending on tides-Doesn't work people
As for the Campbell river Tyee Pool-This was once the "Salmon Capital of the World" there is 60 years of history.I would agree that fishing was better in the Campbell river area in days gone by but what a wonderful history and tradition at the Tyee pool -something we as anglers should be proud of.I cannot think of any other area on the coast of B.C. that has that history? So the down riggers cannot go into that area. What wrong with that we have a a lot of area's where we can go?
Bananas-this hasn't hit the floor yet SFAB-South Coast- the meeting start tomorrow morning and who know's if it gets passed-if so it still has to go to the main board meeting SFAB-Main then -if passed bye the main board it goes to DFO & sits in their folder with about 140 other purposed changes from last year- There it will sit until DFO decides does something-good luck with that.
Just my thoughts on this fishery - it's a real cool fishery with some really interesting people & history to it. Just like the Tyee pool-Rich in History:):)

Sounds like the "fly fishing only" areas that have been implemented on certain rivers. It only starts with one boyz, push back or you'll be seeing more of this in the future.:(

Bananas is right.

I was down there guiding with Ian, another guide, Jody Thompson and a couple others back in the late 80's/early 90's. Back then there was maybe 10 boats there and I do not remember seeing any cut plugers there.

If there was lots of fish, we would troll off the riggers with plugs, anchovie or big white/blue hootchies. Some of us would change it up a bit and jig, which the guests would love. But nobody ever mooched.

There was a few moochers that would try off Beale, but nobody off Nitnat. Long run and if the fish were not there, then it was an even longer day.....

Cheers

Was there during the 90's mackerel invasions in Barkley...we ran down there to keep away from the Mac's. Both cut pluggers and riggers fishing it then. Based on my experiences back then when I'm sure it wqas less traffic then today...they can have it. To much like combat fishing for my liking and my clients. I remember Darren Knight "Triton Adventures" at the time doing well there in the crowd, but the maneuvers he had to go through just to get fish wasn't worth it. I left after 1/2 an hour and went back up to the falls, finished off our limit there and enjoyed the catching. The Doughnut at Ferrer is another similar spot. I don't agree that the whole tack at Ferrer is a problem for both to get along. But if the Fyfe boats are there and a few others it seems like they think they own it.

Sitka i would have to disagree. I was a guest of Matt's in the early days and the cutpluggers where always there. Lots of old timers in tinny's coming out of the lake. It was always a problem for both sides to get along. Will be interesting to see how this one play's out.

Well, I can understand they guy's motive. Sounds good , if you are exclusivley a moocher.

I'm not, so it's crap!

I hit that place with my "big boat" and I am perfectly happy doing so. Who are they to say!

Doesn't this mean I can write a letter and request they pass a regulation saying that only recreational fishing partakes on the WCVI. Hey theres an idea:D

While I'm at it I'll ask that they take all the fish farms out of BC as well. (We all know that does make sense.)

I didn't realize it's all so easy. Haven't we been banging our heads on issues that really matter?

Then this........

What the hell is going on lately?????

They want a new bridge in town . They ask for some money , and the government gives them $42 million........ then this guy comes along and will probably get his area designation. We have more pressing issues that need attention than crap like this.

The whole idea sucks and Yes I've fished NitNat.

There are thousands and thousands of miles of shore line/kelp bed in BC where people who want to fish cut plug can go, I've even fished cut plug close to shore in Howe Sound of all places and done well kelp or no kelp.

Why reserve a certain spot so certain operators can sell their exclusive method to foreigners for Big Bucks?

Because that's what this is about, money, money, money not technique.

...the more I think about it the more I think this is crap.

I have way more vested interest than a guy in a little tinny. He wants to fish that way then great I love seeing them out there. But I am not trying to shut him down. Who are these guys?

I say they want to fish then great, but stop screwing with my pleasure.

HL....not happy

in reading the letter they put foward i had a laugh at the point of
lighter mooching gear will put less stress on the fish, is this the fishes mental well being? or is it now better too take longer to reel in a fish, and i think most of these guys still bonk their fish so what is thier angle on that one

A test fishery to see if mortality rates change...lol...Thats the line of ******** that they used to persuade Randy Dolihan and the boys at MOE, by the way hows that study coming along? Once these little user groups get something approved your gonna have a hell of a time getting it changed back, like I said it starts with one.
