Damn good question Chey!
Spent the last 6 days working it, arriving before light, and departing after. Hit every square inch of the best stuff many times, and even a full day in the jet. Between 3 decent rods, managed but 8 to hand for the full week's effort
The guides ain't producing the type of numbers they're used to, and nearly all we spoke with drew blanks. Yes, the odd one here and there, but nothing like we usually see at this time of year!! A buddy drifted the upper 3 times this week. results: 2 summer runs to hand, one winter hooked but LL released.
About 5 years ago, the "peak" of the run Timing appeared to shift from late January into February. For the last 3 years, this week has been
IT according to my journals, and several of my buddies who track the same. Even the
Top Guns are getting twitchy, numbers embarrassingly low for those who fixate on such.
Now, we're all VERY much hoping they have simply shifted slightly later again. Kinda fits with the lateness of most local salmon runs last fall... REALLY hate to think we're witnessing the Stamp heading the direction of the Gold and so many others!!!!!!!
Dispite the lack of fish, the sun brought out the anglers in hordes yesterday. Haven't seen so many on a weekday since the run peak last year. Spoke with many, and heard of a total of 5 hit, 4 landed amongst 25 or so rods!
OUCH!!
Taking a few days off now before getting up the steel to hunt yet again. Hard to take the dissapointment over and over...
Cross your fingers Gentz! The sky ain't falling yet, but she's a tad shakey at this point...
