It's pretty shallow in that area, so no idea if they plan on getting this usable for larger boats - how far they are extending out into the water, dredging...etc etc If they actually have decent parking for it. Anyone know anything more?

Have heard that since he start of the project.
The other one down by Sooke Elem. is supposed to have quite a bit of moorage space as well

I'm wondering if a hotel will really want noisy diesel trucks and early risers chatting loudly at 4am next to their guests who are sleeping in the rooms. The private hotel and a public ramp don't seem to fit together in my mind.

Agree on that, there's no way a nice hotel is going to want
a bunch of "fishermen" fouling up their facility. ;)

Dont hold your breath on it 200,000 isnt going to do much you need to put a whack of fill into where they want to do it and rock and trucks hauling that amount is going to take a bit. from the plans I saw cant see how thats going to cover it especially in these times, what if the close fishing down once again in may/june yep thats going to bring them in....NOT

Yup.. and " There would be 19 boat parking stalls alongside the hotel ".. that will fill up in 5 min. on a busy summer morning ! they will have trucks and boat trailers parked all over the place on the road on side walks along buildings ect ect... it will be a Gong show at the public ramp in Sooke..

200k is just the hotels contribution to the pier - they have assigned 2.3 million to the overall construction...yes!?!? (its broken down in the sooke mirror article)

the sooke article - didn't really break it all down though - could be 100k for the launch, could be 1 million of it???

The total cost of the public boat launch, parking areas, pier and boardwalk is estimated to be $2.315 million.

Fontes said the costs covered by the district would be $1.6 million for land-based and water-based construction. Out of that Prestige would contribute $200,000 for the public pier portion and $500,000 “in-kind” contribution for the public boat launch land-based construction work.

In April, 2010, a report stated the construction costs would be $1.4 million. The report stated the total cost to Sooke taxpayers would be $1.1 million. The difference of $300,000 is the district’s matching grant of 33 per cent (for the $605,000 government infrastructure grant).

“Bottom line, the tax payer receives a public amenity worth $1.1 million funded by 50 cent grant dollars. The actual tax payer contribution is 30 cent dollars. The other 20 cents being funded by Prestige,” said Fontes.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of September.#8232;#8232;It is expected that Prestige Hotel#8232;will have a “soft” opening early in 2011, if not before.
