It looks pretty $exy 
, but for now I will stick to my faithful conventional 2000 GTs, which have given me so many years of trouble-free usage. In fact, I just got two more 2000GT for $60 each (brand new) to replace two Daiwas M-One which, with due respect, I find are quite inferior when compared with the Shimanos.

Max Drag 5# ?.. For real or misprint?
El Pescador... older or newer model Diawa M1? The new one with the metal rim is a lot nicer with better drag than the older one.
I like the drag knob design on this new Shimano.

Cliffjumper, the Daiwas I am referring to are 7-10 years old, so I assume they are the older model. Haven't tried the new ones with the stainless rim.
The problems I have experienced with the older Daiwas include: 1) the aluminum decal getting loose from the drum (had to glue it back); 2) the drag (anti-reverse) lever breaking on three reels (doesn't seem to be very sturdy, maybe not very UV resistant?); and 3) both drag knob and drive shaft turning together, which made it impossible to set the drag (this happened on at least 2 of my reels). Not sure if others have experienced the same problems.
The only hiccup I have found with the Shimanos has been the 3 screws securing the body to the stand becoming loose on one reeel, and that was a quick and easy fix.

I have had the pleasure of using this reel since early August and the prototypes since the middle of May. This reel is a huge improvement over the regular 4000 that we have all used for past decade or so.
The drag is the number one improvement. It has a large sealed drag washer that will give you close to 5 pounds of drag at Max and it doesn't get fouled from the rain or waves. It takes about 41/2 pounds of drag to keep your reel from creeping at 200ft doing 2 knots. The reels I am using are as smooth as I day I got them. On a regular 4000 I would be changing drag washers every 2 weeks to keep them running like new. I haven't had to open the new ones or the prototypes once.
The Handles are also a huge improvement. They are easier on fingers and they have a great feel. These are the same handles that you would get on Shimano's high end spinning reels. These handles won't work on the regular 4000's (I have enquired) The Stainless palming ring ring stops the burning you would get from the regular 4000.
I will be completely switching out all of my old 4000's for the new ones. A big investment, but worth it.
I am sure that the first batch of reels will go fast as the initial run will be small.
Put it on your Christmas list.

The bottom washer is the same as the old model and the larger inside sealed one is dartanium. It is large gray washer about double the size of the old that looks similar what you would find in the larger Calcutta TE.
We tried a bunch of different combinations and this configuration worked the best. The sound of the reel is a little different and that was only thing that took a little to get used to.

The go ahead has happened and the new reels are in the works for me. I should have them Jan.2010
